Full ADSL bandwidth on 384k line?

i ordered 192, but they installed 384 and billed me for 384. fortunately, they've credited me for the stuff up and downgraded my line to 192.

Nebula, As was stated above. The throttling is software based. That said, your theoretical analysis of the speeds can be distorted heavily ;P

Ok my speeds still seems to be full 512k...so I'm very happy with that...but my p2p downloads seems to be rather slow...I know my line is shaped...whatever the hell that means, all I know is that p2p downloading is slower than unshaped...anyway, I've heard from other people that they still get traffic in the regions of 20kb/sec, but last night I tried using Kazaa light and WinMX, and my download rate was at max 5kb/sec. I haven't tried any torrent or hubs yet...what do you guys get on p2p?

I don't use kazaa, but if it's possible to change the ports it uses, change them. The default ports are shaped to hell. Try something in the 6000-7000 range maybe.

slow hands why are you using rubbish p2p

the only decent program is edonkey then download the crack set upload to 1kbs and download 100kbs and dont use less than 50 peers

killadoob, you're making the assumption that the only things 'worth' downloading are things that at least 50 other people are downloading at the same time.
Not everyone is looking to have the exact same copies of things that all the other sheeple are trying to have.

There's this odd idea that 'wow your speeds will be fast if you find things that have 'lots' of peers - yeah but jeez, looking at the kind of rubbish that has 'lots of other peers hosting it', not everyone associates being able to download pop chart jingles, lousy movies, useless apps and this weeks arbitrary game, at speed, to be a worthwhile download..

Ahhh I'm back at last...hehe couldn't stay away from always on internet - although at cost. My 384 also got installed today and I am getting the same as Slowhands. Maybe it will only last for a small while. Made a bum choice for modem though - Netgear 384GT - The net reviews are really bad for this one - quite a few people complaining of overheating...ah well if it goes i'll get a d-link or 3-com. Happy to be back at reading all the moaning....:-)

You may just find you are actually on one of the new DSLAMS..... :D
My connection shows 2048 still, and I know that I am still on one of the original Marconi DSLAMS...

I know there are reports earlier, but its too late (early?) to search... Scuze my lazyness but anyone have experiences in speed with the 192k package?

I ordered on Friday under the brothers name, and guess the hell what :(
You-know-who says because he doesnt have a credit record, we have to pay R700 deposit.. the basterds. Anyone wanna bet R700 that I WILL NOT get it back? ;)

Anyway, worst thing about it is the reported 21 days till installation.. need I say 'basterds' again? Anyone know how I can motivate them to speed up? :(

dude what is wrong with you lol so you wont download a song you love because 253 ppl have it on edonkey. all i said was if he downloads something he wants make sure lotsa ppl have it. now for ppl like lonegunman who dont understand why you dont download from one source.

well you might be in queue place 1000 or he does what i do and limits downloaders to 1k a sec.

so inclosing lonegunman the man who doesnt want what other ppl have roflmao sorry had to laugh at that.
you need alot of sources to get fast speed

like DUH dude

er no, you don't.
:P
Depending on what you're into, you can find just ONE user with files you want and have blisteringly fast speeds, using DC++.

Whereas torrents, (you're saying) the only way to have fast speeds is to be fighting with 50 other people over that one file - and therefore, you're ending saying - as I think you are - that the only files that are 'good' are the ones that 'everyone else has'.

Mass conformity..

I get amazing speeds from DC++, getting files from just one user at a time - no multiple users sending bits of files needed at all..

but hey, different strokes, different folks :P
