Full-Duplex and Line Speed

Quick question for the clever okes.

If I have a 1Mbps full-duplex line, does it mean I can achieve 1Mbps max on the up and down stream simultaneously, or does it mean that the combined simultaneous traffic of up and down stream is 1Mbps max.
