JOB DESCRIPTION
The Database Administrator/MySQL Developer will design and maintain a database for the purpose of undertaking an online survey for the PEPFAR program at least bi-annually. The Database Administrator will contribute as requested to support the reporting and mapping needs of the USG/PEPFAR program. The database administrator will establish effective partnerships and collaboration with other institutions, particularly with government partners.
Responsibilities of the role will include but not be limited to:
Technical responsibilities include:
To design, develop and maintain a database according to specified standards and specifications that would assist in being able to i) measure the spread and density of the USG/PEPFAR program, ii) determine the coverage of the PEPFAR program, stratified by program area in South Africa and iii) to monitor diseases and interventions over time
Developing the backend for an online survey
Participate in the design of a system for proper and systematic collection, storage, analysis and dissemination of information.
Provide database programming support and troubleshooting. Review process design and stored procedures. Implement database upgrades, backups and restores. Develop and maintain MySQL and SQL code.
Configure, optimize, and support MySQL Server 5.0., SQL Server or other relational databases.
Develop and maintain web interfaces to database information to permit the viewing and modification of database contents from browser-based clients
Design, develop and implement complex database systems, programs and applications.
Documentation of database design and implementation
Work with users to identify and develop system requirements taking into account desired results, hardware limitations and operating requirements
Able to map out the USG / PEPFAR program in relation to the rest of the GO health system
Able to generate daily reports during the survey
Being able to determine areas of potential double counting in the PEPFAR program
Plan and execute capacity building activities for the relevant staff, focusing on aspects of GIS
Support the Chief of Party/GIS Task Lead in communications to USG / PEPFAR and other stakeholders as requested.
Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the Chief of Party/GIS Task Lead
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Minimum of 2-3 years experience in the design, development and maintenance of databases and systems using SQL, etc. and using database monitoring tools
Advance SQL and PL/SQL, Data Modeling and Relational Database Design
Experience creating and implementing physical databases from Logical Data Models
Experience with data management, versioning of data, backups, etc
Knowledge of related software and systems (Database, Word Processing, Desk Top Publishing)
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Highly organized, meticulous and reliable
Experience in survey software and reporting tools
Working experience in the Department of Health setting; working with USG / PEPFAR will be an added advantage
Highly proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, keen to learn how to use new software and be able to interface different analysis and database packages.
Required Qualifications:
At least 2-3 years experience in the field of the development of online surveys
A BSc/BA degree in Computer Science or other relevant field; or the equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience
MS SQL DBA certificate recommendable
Salary: R35000 included Benefits (Medical, Pension and 13th Cheque)
Status: Full time, one year contract, renewal performance-based
