Description:
Main Role:
• The purpose of the job is for the Java Developer to produce high quality code within time estimates. It is expected that the Java Developer is involved with the design, development, testing and documenting support applications.
• This is a contract role with an estimated duration of between 3 and 6 months
• The Java Developer will work closely with the Team Leader, Business analyst and Java Architect to deliver a high quality product.
• The Java developer will be held responsible for the success of the project to the same extent as every other team member.
• Java Coding Weighting 70%
o Support applications written in Java.
o Develop, test and document solutions which adhere to best practices and that fit into the existing framework.
o Develop new software.
o Maintainenance and support of solutions.
o Stay abreast of Java technology and best practices.
• People Stewardship Weighting 30%
o Technical support/assistance to junior developers on own code or systems.
o Mentor to newly appointed developers.
Requirements:
Education & Qualifications:
• Matric.
• An IT related degree (BTech(IT), B Sc or BComm) or diploma would be advantageous /
• Or Java programmer certification
Skills/knowledge and experience required to perform optimally in role
• 2 – 4 years programming experience in Java.
• Experience in OO design.
• Experience in web and swing based projects and the J2EE architecture.
• Knowledge of J2EE, Java, UML, XML, Javascript, JSP and JSF, Web services.
• Experience with open source frameworks such as Struts, Spring, Hibernate, JUnit.
• Experience working with relational databases (Oracle, mySQL).
• Experience in using Eclipse, Maven, JBOSS. Linux.
• Experience in Jasper Reports.
• Exposure to the full software life cycle.
• Use of bug tracking systems.
• Proven experience of meeting deadlines and delivering quality code.

Language requirements:
• Speak, understand and write : English
