L2 Support Engineer

Prop Data is looking for an L2 Support Engineer to join our existing support team in Durban. Remuneration will be based on the candidate’s skills and experience.

You will almost certainly have: – A degree in computer science or related field or equivalent demonstrable experience. – Excellent verbal communication skills. – Proficiency in e-mail and internet access. – At least 2 years experience in a Linux based hosting environment. – Hosting and networking experience. – Great troubleshooting skills. – Excellent understanding of DNS and e-mail services.

It would be helpful and advantageous if you had: – System administration experience with change management and deployment in an SLA-driven environment. – Automated configuration experience (puppet, chef etc). – Experience with version control systems.

Your responsibilities will include: – Advanced technical support issues escalated from L1 support engineers. – Office network administration / capacity planning. – Assisting L1 support engineers with migration strategies of client services. – Server administration: – Management of file systems and services. – Daily backups. – Security / OS upgrades. – Server hardware support. – Setup and deployment of new web applications. – Database administration (backups, removal of old databases). – Responding to NMS alerts. – Advanced DNS configuration and maintenance. – Documenting faults accurately. – Escalating out of scope faults to senior support personnel.

But even more importantly we are looking for someone who: – Obsessively pays attention to detail. – Can work unsupervised in an unstructured open environment.
