Description:
Naspers currently has a vacancy for a PHP developer, preferably with experience in Drupal, Wordpress and/or Mediawiki platforms.

The Job:


  • Development of primarily PHP (LAMP) applications for web and mobile customers.
  • You will expected to be able to manage your time responsibly and meet those deadlines to which you have committed.
  • You will work as part of a cross-functional team in a creative, fast-paced environment.
Job Outputs:


  • PHP5 development on both internal components and client facing products according to specification, adhering to quality standards and deadlines you have agreed to.
  • Diagnose issues in the code produced by yourself and others and recommend solutions.
  • Fix Major & Minor Bugs for products.
  • Develop Major & Minor Enhancements for products.
  • Obtain Technical Knowledge and research.
  • Perform Alpha Testing on new Developments.
  • Contribute ideas and input on new product development.
  • Translation of functional requirements into technical specification from time to time.
  • Support and maintenance of the existing application infrastructure.
Skills and Competencies:


  • You will have worked extensively with php4/5, working always with the goal of producing components for reuse, often by others. (2 – 5 Years Experience)
  • Preferable: experience in Drupal, Wordpress and/or Mediawiki platforms.
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Work unassisted
  • You are very comfortable with MySQL and database schema design.
  • You take pride in your work, giving attention to detail.
  • You are happy to take full ownership of any project assigned to you.
  • You know how to translate a functional requirements specification into a technical specification.
  • You have written and implemented web services and have an understanding of what a services orientated architecture can contribute, as well as the pitfalls.
  • You understand the performance implications of the code and queries you write. You desire to know more.
  • You are seasoned in the use of JavaScript and AJAX.
  • You have worked with revision control and understand its importance in delivering a quality product.
  • You know when to ask for assistance.
  • Experience with Relational-Database administration, including SQL scripting
The following additional skills may well be advantageous:


  • Drupal, WordPress and/or Mediawiki
  • Knowledge of the social networking environment
  • Experience with mobile platforms
  • XHTML/HTML/CSS
  • XML and related technologies (DTD, XSD, XSLT, SAX, DOM, XPATH, SOAP, RSS)
