S1 (incorporating the business previously known as Postilion) delivers integrated financial services on an open platform to leading financial institutions, retailers, and processors. Our solution family spans payments, online banking, branch banking, and lending.
Realworld Performance Lab (RPL) is an S1 Payments initiative to simulate a large production system in a laboratory environment with the aim of identifying usability, quality, scalability and performance issues.
The RPL Systems Engineer (SE) is responsible for 1st and 2nd level application support of the S1 Payments suite of products (developed in-house) that are deployed on the RPL system. This support involves:
· The RPL SE has to perform detailed analysis of issues. This analysis will require the RPL SE to use tools such as SQL profiling tools, network sniffers and Windows Performance Monitor to assist in the troubleshooting process. The RPL SE will also be required to review technical documentation and specifications, write T-SQL statements to query and/or update database contents and read/interpret code (primarily Java) as part of the troubleshooting process.
· If an issue requires input from one of the development teams the analysis has to be documented in detail. The RPL SE might be required to explain the issue verbally to the development team involved.
· The RPL SE is expected to negotiate patch dates/solution specifics with the development teams.
· The RPL SE is required to manage a consolidated issue list for RPL and track all issues using a call tracking system.
The RPL SE is responsible for testing and promoting changes to the RPL production environment. Each change has to be documented in detail, tested (regression, unit and performance testing) and applied in the RPL QA/pre-production environment before being promoted to the RPL production environment. The RPL SE will be responsible for reviewing changes from other team members and should also ensure that the formal change control process is adhered to.
The RPL SE is responsible for writing detailed reports. These reports include detailed incident reports (typically required for priority 1 incidents) and detailed system reports (typically generated on a monthly basis).
The RPL SE has to be involved in planning sessions to discuss the roadmap for the RPL system. The RPL SE might also be required to perform basic project management tasks, including but not limited to:
· Estimating tasks and tracking each task’s progress.
· Ensuring that the team follows the project management methodology being used.
· Escalating to management if tasks are not tracking as expected.
Other tasks related to the job may be required from time to time depending on team/management requirements.
Qualification and Experience
Education and experience
3 years+ relevant university or technikon qualification
3 years+ relevant experience
Operating systems and networking
Microsoft Windows server environments and networking. AIX / Linux knowledge is an advantage.
OS command line utilities and scripting.
TCP/IP. Network tracing / sniffing experience is an
advantage.
Knowledge of routers and firewalls.
Using tools like Windows Performance Monitor.
Hardware
Good knowledge of different hardware platforms and server technologies like RAID and SANs.
Exposure to 24/7/365 or “99.999%” uptime environments an
advantage.
Databases
Knowledge of SQL Server database administration. DB2
knowledge is an advantage.
T-SQL scripting: querying and updating databases.
Using tools like SQL Profiler.
Development
Any development experience is an advantage (Java
knowledge in particular).
Environment and communication
Strong written and spoken skills are essential.
Experience in report writing and other written deliverables.
