Role Definition

Play a leading technical role in the delivery of professional services projects.

Qualification and Experience

A Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business Science degree majoring in Computer Science, or

An Electrical Engineering degree with Computer Science at 3rd year level, or

A Bachelor of Technology degree with at least 2 years work experience as a full time developer in a professional development team.

An Honours degree (or higher) majoring in Computer Science is advantageous.

Additional relevant work experience as a full time developer in a professional development team, using an object-oriented programming language (preferably Java with J2SE), as well as sound understanding of relational databases, particularly Microsoft SQL Server or DB2 on AIX.

This role requires significant experience with S1 Payments products and domain expertise in the payments space. Ideally the candidate would also have on-site implementation experience.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, customer service skills and written and verbal communication skills.

A working knowledge of good project management practices is required.

Principal Responsibilities

The Technical Project Manager has three primary responsibilities:

· Owns the technical design of the S1 Payments solution once the Business Solution Specification (BSS) or Contract Addendum Technical Appendix (in the case of smaller projects) has been handed over from the S1 Solution Architect or regional team.

· Provides guidance to S1 developers and implementation engineers in terms of design, code review, testing, installation, configuration and testing support activities.

· Acts as a technical consultant to the client on S1 Payments products and customizations.

Detailed responsibilities include:

· Technical Project Managers should be prepared to travel periodically in order to meet with clients. This role is client-facing and requires frequent verbal and written interaction with clients and other vendors.

· Draft Business Requirement Specifications (BRSs) or Contract Addendums, when required.

· Provide pre-sales assistance to the regional staff, when required.

· Produce appropriate design and analysis artifacts for projects and ensure that these are aligned with contractual obligations agreed to with the client.

· Provide technical input into designs and ensure that the code produced by developers implements the designs correctly

· Mentor developers, in terms of technical and domain knowledge, and professional skills

· Provide technical and software level knowledge to project teams, including software developers, testers and implementation engineers, as well as regional S1 staff.

· Assist in solving the more complex support problems where more skill or experience is needed than available in the Support or Regional teams

· Manage change requests where problems with the system design or implementation are encountered which cannot be worked around without changes to the solution. Assess and communicate the impact of change requests and strive to use existing standard solutions as far as possible. Ensure design and analysis artifacts are appropriately updated as a result of changes.

· Participate in project retrospectives and contribute to process improvement and maturation.

· Provide input to line managers with respect to the performance of project team members.

· Balance the short-term needs of the project with the long-term wellbeing of the solution

· Assist 1st, 2nd and 3rd level Support teams as required.

· Produce specifications, design, develop and test software, when so required

· Provide mentorship and guidance, and share experience with team members.

· Provide billing information to the appropriate Finance staff of a particular region, when required.

· Take responsibility for the overall quality of the software developed

· Liaise with other business groups where necessary.

· Any other necessary function not defined above.
