Role Summary:

The Software Developer will develop web based business and client applications and will be involved with the transitioning of legacy software systems. The role operates within a self-organising team environment and requires commitment to and understanding of the Agile (Scrum) development philosophy. The software development team is based at the company\‘s head office in Durbanville.

Overall disposition:

The ideal candidate will have a passion for:

Technology to serve operational and client requirements

Programming, open source technologies and IT in general

Optimal systems and simple procedures

Agile development (Scrum) and a self-organising team environment

The challenge of transitioning legacy software systems towards the state-of-the-art in software development

Sharing ideas and innovation

A high level of proficiency in the following:

Web development (Ruby, Python or PHP – cross skilling may be required)

Database design and performance tuning

Software development within the Linux/Unix environment

Agile development practices (TDD, refactoring, continuous integration, pair programming)

Object oriented development

Linux systems administration skill will be an advantage



Responsibilities:

Continually drive process and technical improvements within the development team

In collaboration with the Product Owner, understand the needs of the customer in order to deliver innovative, robust solutions

Enthusiastically contribute to the output and approach of an agile software development team

Participate in all aspects of the software development process

Maintain and incrementally transition legacy systems



Qualifications:

BSc or BTech majoring in Computer Science will be a distinct advantage.
