Fun place for 2 young kids

Due to finances and whatnot I'ts been a few years since we were able to go away.
I would like to do some weekends away with my ankle biters (girls - 5 and 8) to some fun places.

Can anyone recommend any fun places with activities/animals not too far (1-2h) from Cape Town?

Your geography might be a bit sketchy..... Syria is slightly more than 2 hours from CT ;-)
