Hey guys, I'm calling on all of you for guidance again :)

I'm looking at getting a new gfx card - thinking a Radeon 4890.

I have a power supply of only 350-400W at the moment, which isn't gonna cut it, correct?

So ATI says I need about a 500W PSU. So I guess my question is, what's the cheapest one I can get that won't explode, and where can I get it from?

I live in PE ^_^.

Thanks guys :)

550watt coolermaster extreme power should be just about enough, but you will upgrade in the future so go for the 650watt instead.

Corsair VX 550 gets my vote

5 year warranty and very high efficiency, so you get more effective watts for your bucks than you would with cheaper power supplies.

Remember that with Power supplier more so than any other PC component, you get what you pay for.

That odin should work, but it's only around 500watts.

Maybe we can help another way. Prophecy have the 4890 for R2400.

it has a maximum combined 460w peak wattage is 585. I have the box in my hand right now, bought one last week for the wifes pc. Running the XFX HD4890 on it just fine. Her PC is a C2Q6600, one 500gig HD 3 gig ram, 2 DVD writers, and a couple of fans. So no big power suckers in the box. It should run just fine for you.

Hope my Superb 550 can support an OCed 4890 and Q9550, hold thumbs.

How do you figure the 585W is a 500W?

585watts is the peak not continuous rating. It can only run for 1min at the peak rating.

Have you ever wondered why the odin gt 550watt is double the price of the 585odin?

Besides the extra features, it's rated for continuous, not peak.

+1 for corsair - they pump out more than the box actually says, those guys are very conservative on the output amount "sticker value"
