It's ok without RAID, so it's just going to have to be RAID-less until I can organise downtime.

fsckign windows auto-reconfiguring hardware..

Nice witty reply there mate!

Had my fair share of pain with RAID on IDE & SATA drivers just gave up and just used 1 HDD as a main one, pluged the other into a HDD enclosure and did back up's every week.

The controller on this board is fine, it's just that the RAM f'd up the BIOS settings, disabling RAID, and the boot order was reset to default, so Windows booted off one of the RAID mirrors.. thus messing it up.

I suppose it might be possible to reconstruct the RAID by mirroring the first drive's contents, overwriting the second's contents and then making it boot again - but doing this on a critical box might yield some bad results. :|

to add RAID, you'll have to enable the RAID on the controller, then run your XP Installation as a repair install- making sure you hit F6 and install the Text-Mode (OEM PnP Driver) driver - this will replace the current text mode driver that windows boots with. So make sure you've done it sucessfully and that you've tested your stiffy drive and text mode driver disk first!
