Got this tale from Shark Tank :

Senior partner at this accounting firm loses his iPhone, complete with all the confidential client email and information on it, reports an IT manager pilot fish on the scene.

"Two days later, his executive assistant emailed the help desk at 4:30 p.m. to advise us that he had lost the phone and was on his way to get a new one," fish says.

"Normally as the IT manager I don't deal with these issues, but with staff on vacation, I figured I would help out and take this one myself."

Fish also knows that the closest phone store is only five minutes away, and he wants to make sure a remote wipe command is sent before the old phone's network access is cut off.

He quickly logs into the Exchange server and sees that two iPhones are connected to the partner's email account. That's strange, fish thinks -- this partner has always had a BlackBerry before he got an iPhone, and fish knows the partner has never lost a phone before. In fact, both phones are actively syncing email.

With growing concern about security, fish calls the executive assistant. Do you know of any other iPhones connected to the partner's email account? he asks. Nope, she says. She's absolutely positive that nobody else has access to his email.

Fish immediately sends remote wipes to both iPhones.

"About 10 seconds later, the executive assistant called, crying that I had just wiped out her iPhone!" says fish. "Apparently no one else has access to this partner's email except the assistant.

"No backups. Never synced with iTunes on a computer. All her photos from a recent trip to China gone. Let's just say that she was not amused."

Wot yer mean no sync with iTunes was ever done? :wtf:

Since iOS 5 there's been no need to ever go near a PC or iTunes.

This is true. They finally caught up with Android in making ordering apps a little easier. No more having to use the worlds most terrible software to install apps. However, one still has to lie about their location and purchase over priced gift cards to purchase anything :( I had to purchase the Merch Manual for my wife this weekend. So purchased a $50 voucher for more than $50...(Think it was $54). Bought the manual. Also hired a movie from the store. Wont be doing that again. Theyre so anal about how quickly you have to watch the video that it make the experience very unpleasant.

Mac users tend not to have the same opinion of iTunes as windows users. I've been using iTunes to manage my music for longer than I've even had a ipod and I don't have a problem with it at all.

I keep itunes running on my media centre (a six year old mac mini) so whenever I plug the iPad into charge it auto syncs. If I didn't do that I'd definitely be backing up my docs, and especially my photos, to iCloud.

BTW - not everyone lies to get their apps. ;) I don't think it's fair to blame apple for the decisions the app creators and copyright holders make. They're ultimately the ones who decide what content is on relevant country's iTS.

EDIT - did you mean the Merck Manual?

Strangely enough I dont have app restrictions with the Play Market place, so I think Ill blame Apple for this one... Its their platform I have to jump through extra hoops for. Not androids. Just checked, the Merck Manual is available on the Play Market for roughly the same price, and available to everyone. Not just Americans.

Are you able to download the Nook reader app off the Android playstore?

No, I am not able to download the ebook reader for Barnes and Noble. Never new it existed before now. I also imagine the FNB app wont work well for Americans though. However when we compare apples with apples (ie Merck Manual with Merck Manual) we can see something is rotten.

The assistant didn't realise her phone was synced to his email and had never once backed it up, as in not even plugged it in to her computer to charge? To me that is her fault. It wouldn't have been any different with a droid if both had been remote wiped.
