Its that time again - Im almost debt free and want to clean up my credit record - what do I do with accounts that are closed - reflecting as open - some dating back to 2011 - incl. outsurance wtf. [Experion]

Some of them are microloans from dodgy little companies [I went through a desperate phase]

Do I need to check each of the major credit bureaus for these kind of errors :erm:

yes, also you can get a letter from those companies stating that you have paid then they will remove it.

With TransUnion you can log a dispute directly with them. The instructions are on the last page of your credit report. Once you have a ref number from them they ask you to fax over all your supporting documentation and then they will process it.

Meh a lot of the supporting docs here are either missing or never existed - like in the case of the loan - everything was done online - as is the case with microloans these days - bah humbug

If you paid back the debt, they will remove the listing. If they had to write off the debt, you have a wait of a few years still

All debt is paid - no judgements etc etc - was suprised - 27 opened and closed accounts in 4 years - i had a lot of loans lol

Ja. something like 7 years and then hope in the interim they don't sell your debt for pennies on the rand to some parasite legal to collect for the full amount plus interest or you get attached/garnished/blacklisted all over again. Happened to an ex. You can try and claim prescription. They hate that.

There is a company that combines your credit records into one report. Can't recall the company though. Buy the report and use it. Then send formal letters (email / letters) to the organisations indicating that you have sorted out your debt and they need to update accordingly. Add to the letter that if they DONT do it, you will take legal action (NCR etc.) as to push them to do it.

There's a new amnesty being tabled so if you have a crap report or any judgements to R15K (so far that's the amount mooted) then just sit back and relax and watch your print heavy report evaporate back to a blank sheet of paper.

So, let me get understand this. Make debt. Get bad record. Go into judgement......reset. Start again. My suspicion is that it is to "calm" the masses that are overdebted for political gain.

Theoretically even with a clean slate they should not be able to start again as the original debt still stands and the NCA prohibits lending where the debtor cannot afford the installments. The purpose is so that people can get jobs and housing if they can now afford it since the blacklisting.
