Funny Car Sound

Hi guys, my polo 1.4 is making funny noices when it reaches gear 4 and 5. Its like its a deasel car. Is this normal ? i have only done 3500 KM on it.

I booked it in for a check up on monday

Could be a whole bunch of things.
Need more info on the noises before I would hazard a guess. But it could be as innocent as something flapping against your wheels... or it could be as serious as valve issues.

Does the noise only start particularly in those gears no matter what speed you're doing? Or only when you're above something like 60kmph?

Does the noise rise in tempo with the revs? or is it constant tempo?

Does it come from the bonnet? Under the car? one side?

what happens when you idle?

Is the ride still smooth? loss of power?


can you be more specific? include any detail... it's like an episode of "House" just with cars instead of sick people! Hahahaha!

Shouldn't be a problem with a fuel injected engine, which I'm assuming it is.

Most primitive fuel injections still run timing off an analogue controller from a vacuum sensor...

I stand corrected.

I was under the impression that pretty much any modern car would have a knock sensor and therefore be able to adjust ignition timing as needed.

I almost have the same except my 1.4 is a Corsa and it does not make that noise

Seriously though, engine knocking could be a result of something as simple as a dodgy knock sensor which they can easily fix. The result of not having it checked out quickly can be premature engine failure and if they determine that you were aware of the issue but did not bring it to their attention your warranty could become void.

HI Guys, thanks for the inputs. Turned out moving from a Diesel car to a pretrol car i had high expetations for the petro sound. I expected it to be way queer than the diese. I took it in this morning and the guy told me that thats a norma sound.
