If I go to www.whatismyip.com or try host a shoutcast server, the following problem arises..

results: <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">Your IP is 168.210.90.231 <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

why is it this address and not the normal (for example) 66.18.80.8 ?

Is this fixable or what?

My dyn dns still works fine but it seems that packets are getting their source IP addresses changed somewhere.

This is the IP address of Sentech's "transparent proxy". Basically their routers automatically forward all your port 80 (web) traffic through a web proxy, so generally speaking there is not much you can do about it. (It shouldn't cause any problems though, and should only affect web traffic, I'm not sure if they do it for any other protocols. Transparent proxies are quite common these days, I noticed ABSA ISP also has one.)

Try this site instead: http://ipid.shat.net/?ref=oprx, you should see your real IP under "HTTP forwarded for". Websites normally only "see" and use the *proxy*'s IP address (I assume because "HTTP forwarded for" is probably unreliable, i.e. can be forged or be a private address, but not sure)

By routing all web traffic through a proxy they can save a bit on international bandwidth, since the proxy tries to cache content that gets accessed multiple times. (However an *overloaded* proxy can slow things down rather than speed things up). (I think the transparent proxy may also help Sentech comply with ECT surveillance requirements .. ?)

Not sure how shoutcast works so I don't know about that problem.

I've used that URL many times but it has screwed itself up now.
I checked it on ADSL and it says 198.54.202.2
Lost its marbles somewhere [:)]

Try this on - tells the truth http://checkip.dyndns.org/

Yes. Ok and I guess it IS the IP address of the transparent proxy. I was just not 100% sure there was a transparent proxy. Just wanted to check in case of the small chance it was my PC/firewall.

But that doesnt help me since for some reason, shoutcast picks up the 168 address. Seems they dont know or dont want to resolve addresses through a proxy like everyone else. Anyways, its no biggie. Would be nice if it worked though.

At least most <i>other</i> apps etc pick up the 66.18.*.* address [:)]
