As explained above. In terms of energy usage it might be a bit more efficient than the normal aircon but both will use roughly the same amount of energy. Where the inverter type helps is to control the max power you need to supply. It is easier to cater for a constant 700W than a 2kW load that turns on and off the whole time. Also the startup current when the compressor kicks in is much higher than the running current. On some LED's you can see them dim briefly when the compressor kicks in. And we have a 36000 BTU unit that will trip the inverter if it tries to start during loadshedding because the startup current is too high.So a question from an AC noob. How does an inverter aircon use less power ?
