I will not even begin to describe my problems with ABSA. This is their reply to why I keep getting e-mails from them...
Dear Mr du Plessis
Further to our conversation of Friday, 26 September '08 regarding your Hellopeter submission. Our investigation into the reason you continued to receive the Digital Post e-mail newsletter after your cancelled your service with Absa has been concluded and I'm able to offer the following clarification of events.
An active list of Absa Internet Banking customers was extracted as at the end of July '08. This was done to accommodate a distribution date scheduled for early September '08. Subsequent to this data extraction the distribution of the newsletter was slightly delayed. To minimise customer inconvenience resulting from the delayed newsletter we persisted with the original customer extraction. Consequently you were included in the original customer extraction with the result that newsletter was send to you after you closed your Absa accounts on 5 August '08.
Additionally, the newsletter is deemed an operational communication which primarily informs customers of the new features available through Internet Banking and related services, and gives customer online safety and security tips. As a result the "do not market" indicators flagged on your accounts would not have blocked this operational communication.
While it is possible to opt out of receiving operational communications your accounts was not flagged not to receive these communications.
We regret that you have been inconvenienced and would like to assure you that we have taken the necessary action to ensure that you don't receive any further correspondence from Absa.
If you have any more questions or concerns regarding this issue please feel free to contact me directly.
Regards
