Hi

Set up a small webserver, but found that I am unable to access my webserver from an external PC.

Only when I switched ADSL accounts from G-Connect to an SAIX account, was I able to access my webserver.

Does G-connect block incoming requests automatically, and if so, is there a way where I can open the neccessary ports on my account?

Thanks

Libs

I think so. Cause if you think. How will Gconnect know to which account to charge for the data sent/receive from a incomming connection?

The only way is when they link your account temporerly to the dynamic ip.

Cause if I understand gconnect correctlly you don't get a username like

cavedog@gconnect

You use their username and gives you the landing page. So its like similar to a proxy in a way.

I'm just pondering guys. I stand to be corrected.

Hi Librarian

No we don’t block anything, as mentioned we offer a open service.

Cavedog your theory is not quite correct, once a user is authenticated all traffic is allowed in both directions. Also the gateway device is not a proxy, all the device does is Authentication, Accounting and then routing and the NAT.

We have however found two third party products that due to design does not work with G-Connect

Flashget – The download manager keeps appending the landing page url into the download if a user disconnects or runs out of funds.

DynDNS – The way DynDNS on a router works, the systems advertises the WAN ip assigned to the router. In our case it’s a private IP and not the NATed public IP.

I hope this helps, if you are using DynDNS please try a alternative like No-ip (works 100%)

Finally as mentioned by Grandad please contact our call centre as they will gladly assist.
