As the world slowly gets smaller and smaller, our access to unusual items that used to be the pleasures of a far off land are now just a few clicks away. So, as we go shopping together, here are a few gadgets or tech driven items that I found interesting:
The first was the Tetris Chair, lounge chairs inspired by the classic game Tetris – the perfect present for that geek or gamer on your gift list. Then there’s the new bio-sensing cellphone that does all that a cellphone should do as well as keeping a regular watch on their owner’s health. Maybe they should ad a feature that lets you know if you need to brush your teeth! Speaking of health issues, there’s also the O2 Doghouse. Marketed as a dog hospital, the O2 Doghouse will deliver 100% pure oxygen to your pet while he rests inside.
For aspiring drummers there’s the Musical Rumba Tables. They are tables with numerous square blocks that make up the surface area and each square triggers a different drum sound. For the more paranoid purchaser there’s the Quantum Sleeper. It’s basically a bed in a box and offers protection from bio-chemical attacks, natural disasters and kidnappers and is even bulletproof in case you live in the inner city.
Something that intrigued me is technology from MyFotowall that allows users to take any standard photo and enlarge it to the size of an average bedroom wall without loosing any image quality. Or the FootLume carpet that lights up when you walk on it, guaranteeing a longer life for your shins.
If you’re willing to wait, you can pre-order the Nokia tablet that comes standard with wi-max functionality or buy tickets for a ride on Xcor’s new space plane.
So without even venturing into the world of computers, GPS units, cellphones, TVs, hi-fis and many other toys and technology, the universe seems to have found its balance. Now, when our wives say they are just going into the shop for milk and bread only to come out with half the shop, we can say we’re just quickly going online, and a few clicks later have doubled the national GDP.
