Hi Guys

So I bought this card on saturday and would like to know something.

I powered up the machine and got a notification that the card will not function at full capacity due to it not getting enough power. Upon checking the booklet I noticed that there is suppose to be a 4pin molex into a 6pin power adapter that needs to be used. That was not included in the box

Anyway I phoned the dealer and they said it's not included in the box, but they have one lying around somewhere and I can come and collect it.

My question is, was it in the box and they removed it or is it something one buys seperately ?.

I have a 450w PSU that I got with the new tower I bought on Friday and I assume that should be enough ? And does powering up the card from the PSU directly make a difference to the FPS I'm getting ?

Damn, ok so much for one question :D

I haven't bought from Gainward before, but whenever I've bought cards that require a 6-pin power, the Molex to 6-pin has been included in the box. Could differ with different brands though or something?

Does your PSU not have a 6-pin connector?

Nope it doesn't :(

Anyway, the dealer told me to come pick it up this afternoon. I was just thinking they where trying to pull a fast one on me :D Seems like it's not the case then or maybe it is. Anyway, I'm getting it later this afternoon so no worries.

Also does the seperate power = Better framerates aka FPS ?

Imagine an engine with no turbo and one with a turbo will it run faster?

They would not be pulling a fast one although they should mention to you it does not have one or buy a stock a brand that does have these cables.

I would imagine so seeing as the card needs the 6-pin power to perform properly. ;)

Damn O.o then this card and what I have seen it do this weekend just went from Awesome to Bloody Awesome :D

Yea, the prob I have with this whole episode is the fact that I didn't know it needs a seperate power source to have it run at 100%. He could have atleast told me and advised me to maybe buy a different brand in this case.

But all is not lost, they are giving me one for free :)

I was wondering why I'm only getting about 20FPS on WoW with settings at full as people have been saying to get 60+ So I think the power will sort that little problem out pretty quickly :D

nVidia only says a 400watt is the minimum. Unfortunately pitbull, most cards worth buying require external power. It's only the 4670 and 4650 that are special.

:)

My XFX 9600GT came with the adapter in the box but I did not need it as my PSU already had one.

Some companies don't supply them, hell alone knows why....

I bought a Gainward 7900GS (AGP) that required a 6-pin power connector - it was in the box (retail version from the US). My other Gainward cards that I bought (PCI-SLI) however did not include one or the SLI connector! - go figure... :p

Some manufacturers are ar$es when it comes to things like this - the reason for it, I'm not sure. Same thing with HP Printers and their USB cables... you pay a fortune and don't get the cables. Samsung on the other hand seem to include everything!

Sli connectors come with the motherboard.
