Galaxy Note 4 warranty different to S5, Note 3

Generic-knock-off "tech" company with the best after sales service in the country across their whole product range and they are the only other "tech" company besides HiSense to setup shop in the local economy.

Yes, people basically got spoiled with the old system of having it repaired and this is still better than the competition is offering. BUT, like with other things it's a step backwards for Samsung.

Of course the solution to all this is just to TAKE CARE OF YOUR SEVERAL THOUSAND RAND FRAGILE ELECTRONIC DEVICE. I thought it was pretty straightforward but that concept seems to be a bit too higher-grade for the vast majority of phone users.

Meh. What so great about their service ? At least highsense doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't and sells its generic knock off stuff at suitable prices.

Totally agree with you. If you have a high end phone and it's not insured, you're a dumb-ass.

Friend of mine's wife left her Galaxy S4 on the floor from the previous night and stepped on the display the next morning with a high heel shoe. Now if that is not super negligent, I honestly don't know what is negligence.

They took it to Samsung and it was fixed immediately, no questions asked.

Wonder if Apple would do that? ;)

What exactly is not high end on the Samsung Galaxy S and Note ranges? You might not like the plastic finish but it doesn't make it cheap and also it doesn't scratch or bend...

The ADH changing is a bit of a downer but it is still more than what any of the competition is giving.
 
I'd rather have a plastic phone than metal. I had a phone with a metal body which absolutely sucked to use outside on a very cold winter's day :D

Me too.

As Apple discovered with Antennagate, radio antennaes dislike metal a lot.

Let's not start with Bendgate, but you must wonder why are Apple's engineers so dumb.

Think the answer lies in the fact that Samsung manufacturers so many appliances, etc & they just have so much more experience with it.

Apple engineers look like a bunch of noobs against them. :p

Old prices R400 to buy iCare. R500 for the replacement. 2x in 2 years.
New price R400 to buy (got it wrong previously). R800 for iPhone replacement

What does it cover?
Changes warranty from 1 to 2 years for things going wrong
Accidental damage - screen and drowning. 2 in the 2 years (i.e. for stuff out of warranty)

Must admit the price change makes me pause.
At R400 to buy iCare it was obvious. The 2nd amount of money didnt happen unless you broke / drowned it.

If I calculate across all my wife's and mine iPhones and iPads
- I cracked one screen of an iPad - All the iCares I didnt buy more than covered it
- I drowned my Iphone 5 5 months ago - I suppose it would have been worth it to spend R900 (old dealR400+R500) on the drowning. Its now worth zero. If I had a replacement it would be worth a few thousand

I know you are aware that the iphone 6 blows the much higher speced S5 out the water in performance. I know because you are a participant on the thread where the benchmarks are published.

I recently got my screen repaired through Adh and must say it's actually a good selling point for Samsung devices. As long as they don't eliminate it completely it should still attract a lot of potential buyers.
 
Employees at local Samsung Experience Stores did not know anything about the Note 4 not getting the same “ADH Premium” warranty as its predecessor.

how is this surprising? i've never been into a cellphone shop where anyone knew what a cellphone was.

regarding adh: i've dropped my note3 on the floor, tar, carpet and had it bounce off the couch and hit the edge of our glass-top coffee table and all i have to show for it is some dents on the edges. i realised you must be super rough with your phone to break the screen. apart from adh i have insurance on my phone. you can't rely on your phone not being stolen in this country. i've heard too many stories about people paying for 20 months on a contract for a stolen phone.

adh is nice, but it really didn't make me care that much to pick a note3 over something else.
 
I'm UK based, and this ADH warranty is not available here- as far as I can see it's an Africa only deal, maybe even limited to SA only.

I was keen on the S5, but without the ADH it loses a LOT of its appeal. I've 'settled' ;) for a OnePlus One. It's half the price, so I can buy another one if I break this one :)

Luck of the bounce :) I've dropped my S3 plenty, from various heights onto various surfaces- no problem. My mom, in week 1, knocks hers off a coffee table onto a wooden floor: screen smashed to smithereens!
