Galaxy Note 8

Placed pre order with Vodacom, now the wait, also hope we get nice goodies for free. I always seem to miss any of the bundles and pre order things, even though i always had a Note as soon as it was available.

And for the people not sure to have this over the S8+ The camera is a nice upgrade, but i would not say it is a reason to get it over the S8 as that also has a great camera. The software and specs are fairly similar too. And unlike a couple of years ago where the S series usually had an older chip than the Note, it is now the same, so less appealing i get it. But for me I use my Spen a lot and the features it adds is enough for me to always go for the Note. Not sure if i could use a phone if it did not have a Spen, is why i still have my Note 4 and not bothered with another device after the crap last year.

So it's one of those things, if you use it you can't live without it, if you don't well maybe not so easy to justify this over the S8+ as it was in previous generations.

The reason why I was so disappointed last year as I could have upgraded last year from my Note 3 (still in use) to the Note 7.

Can't see myself without a note as I use it a lot for that purpose. The S Pen is what sets it apart from any other phone.

Can't wait as it is going to be a huge upgrade.

Yeah totally agree, was also in line for the upgrade last year and when that did not happen i considered a few other phones, in the end could not convince myself to go with anything that did not have a spen. Just would have been lost without it. I get it that some people do not use it even though they have it and if you have never had a note you might not see how it can ever be useful, but if you use it just a few times a day, having to go without it is not really an option.

CellC have also started taking pre-orders for the Note 8.
Anyone ordering between 23/08/2017 and 15/09/2017 will get early delivery, together with 6 months free Samsung Mobile Care.

https://www.cellc.co.za/cellc/samsung-note8-preorder

Wow 6 full months of care, all for free!!!! Wow...

They better bring the goodies with pre orders, last year i was about to get a wifi charging station and VR set the day the recall happened. Otherwise might as well wait few months for pricing to drop. Only reason i am pre ordering is for the freebies i always seem to miss out on. Vodacom, throw in a 360 camera, wifi, VR or something dammit.

i am afraid you are going to be bitterly disappointed (by the looks of it thus far)

Those results are done in controlled lab tests, much like how car Fuel Consumption is done.

I am so glad I skipped the S8+ and going straight to Note8, Samsung has clearly done a lot of optimisation to it.

Another Battery Test:

The OnePlus5 did well thanks to its small 5.5inch 1080P, panel, but the Note8 did an incredible job considering it has the worst battery to display ratio amongst all of the phones tested.

Cannot wait to get my Note8 beast :D

It's a smaller battery and a bigger display, there's not going be enough optimising to get around that.

Your bias and hope is showing quite clearly. I would put more stock into what Samsung says the respective battery times will be, rather than a hope and a prayer and a couple of YouTube videos...

So the test of the first video is rigged somehow?

Errrmm,no, these are AMOLED Displays, the Display's Physical Size does not really count as their pixels light up individually, its more about the amount of pixels that are lit up, and in the case of Note8 and S8+ they were the same amount as both use the same screen resolutions ;)

LOL! Yep, apparently the YouTube videos that are closer to real life usage should be ignored in favour of the overblown lab tests that show results that most people will never get, LOL!

I believe part of the reason why the Note8 is getting better battery life than the S8+ in these tests could be due to the Note8 using a higher BIN of the SoC (be it Exynos or Snapdragon), the Note8 maybe using the most top shelf variant of the 8895 and 835. The Note8's larger physical size may also be helping, with it being a bigger phone there is more area for heat dissipation, allowing it to run cooler.

The S8+ may also be maxing out its RAM, with only 4GB RAM while the Note8 has the extra 2GB buffer, it's RAM was probably not being pushed as hard.

A whole lot could be at play.

It's like saying "I believe Volkswagen emission tests, above the ones an independent 3rd party have tested" ;)

LOL! :crylaugh: and we all know how that went down.

The last time I actually paid attention to a company's Battery Claims was probably when I was 16yearsold in 2006, getting my 1st smartphone the Nokia N80, before I knew about phone reviews and all that.

EDIT:7

The YouTube Tech Guy is also suspecting the Note8's RAM is helping it with battery life as unlike S8+, it's not maxing it out, again, the Note8 did very well here:

No need to worry about Battery Life, it beat the S8+ and whiped the floor with iPhone 7 Plus :)

I wish the manufacturers would WTFU and stop trying to make their phones even thinner than they already are...resulting in having batteries that catch fire because not enough insulation is provided for, and batteries that do not last long. Rather than going thinner, add 1 mm to the width and give us a few more hours battery life.

And if they can't do that, I suggest they have a chat to the folks at Xiaomi - my new Xiaomi Mi Max 2 with 6.44" screen and thin body gives me just over 4 days between charges

I do agree on getting bigger batteries.

However, your Xiaomi screenshot shows a phone that spends most of its time with the Display Off, so 4days makes sense.

Pity though that Xiaomi is such a piece of schit brand :( It's like buying a Tata bakkie or a GWM instead of a Ford Ranger. Yeh it gets the job done, but hell, I wouldn't be caught dead spending my money on that shizzle.

:crylaugh: Faan....you crack me up, but no comment. But it's a good thing we all have different tastes - can you imagine how boring the world would be if everyone drove around in a grey Ford XXX and everyone had a white XXX phone etc

Screen on time for those 4 days was 14 hrs 23 minutes. And still had battery left...
