Galaxy Note 8

This just happened lol. Awkward.

How??

Putting pressure on that area where the dark glossy silver that is written SAMSUNG meets the black part. It's how I have been using all SPens, but it seems that area is weaker in this SPen. What I noticed inside the SPen is that when you click the pen to take it out, there is a little pin that goes with that top piece that extends when you want to remove the SPen from the phone, what that does is leave a hollow area inside the SPen and it seems to brings down its structural integrity, making it easier to snap. I would advise once you remove your SPens from your Note, click the SPen again so that it detracts that top piece, and makes it a little stronger on the inside.

The Note4 SPen never had this issue as it was one solid piece with only the Button in the middle.

Hopefully fix this with the Note9 SPen.

In the meantime I have superglued it back together, and it's good to go again :D

I'm trying to download the latest Note 8 Firmware from Sammobile.
I'm not a premium member.

When I click on "Wait and Download", I get the Pop-up that counts down then when I click on Download, nothing happens.

Anyone else have that problem?

Download samfirm
It is so quick and has all the latest.

Why wouldn't you hold it like a normal pen or pencil?

Why wouldn't you hold it like a normal pen or pencil?
I hold pens and pencils differently from most people. I am a product of both OBE and the education system that came after that (matriculated in 2008, we were the Guinea pigs of the new curriculum) . The product of a Left handed mother and right handed father, don't judgee but I hold writing tools differently to most people.

I'm not getting any of these updates and also not able to download from Sammobile.

My personal experience was,
when i did not get any OTA,
on my Note 5 and Note 8, i found that with all my flashing with Odin, my CSC was misaligned. eg XFE/XFE /XFV .
Later on, when i managed to align CSC back to eg XFV/XFV/XFV
I am now receiving regular OTA.'s
(On July security patch)

Otherwise if you want to flash with Odin,
(as suggested, in earlier post) , best is to download directly with " Samsfirm" software.
Use the latest version.
It's easier and much faster.
Sammobile is a waste of time.
Good luck

The Samfirm app doesn't pick up any new updates or firmware either.

That is strange, as i have always managed
to pick up latest updates, maybe not immediately, but always.?
No issues.!
I like to keep copy of latest firmware versions (on my laptop) , in case "something" goes wrong, with my one of my phones.

How do I fix my CSC?
8143cbe02425b10078858aa64f7c2d72.jpg
i was on XFV ORIGINALLY (VODACOM)
Got a "bee" in my "bonnet "
I flashed a French firmware XEF
eg i had XEF/XEF/XFV
It worthwhile to note that 3rd code CSC is hardcore. You cannot change it.

Then i did not have volte etc and i wanted to return to XFV Firmware.
I tried flashing XFE firmware (factory reset etc) (Why i don't know anyway.)
I now had CSC XFE/XFE/XFV

I then decided to flash latest Vodacom firmware
XFV, factory reset and landed back on
XFV/XFV/XFV
Started getting OTA 's again!

You know that you must flash 4 of the 5 files
In correctly designated slots in Odin.
Remember you have to factory reset.
Also if unzipping firmware
HOME _CSC_OXF your data stays intact (dirty flash)
You have to choose CSC_OXM plus the other 3 files in Odin This way you phone will be factory resetted.

Also i just checked with Samfirm and eg Vodacom latest firmware is showing.!
See screenshot. for example.
If you on MTN then just follow same as above (if you want to but with MTN Firmware.
Good luck

post note
i just remembered,
when my Samfirm software was not picking up latest Firmware updates reason was that i was using old Samfirm v0.3.1 ,instead of latest Samfirm v0.3.6
Download Samfirm from XDA '

Great. Downloading the firmware now using this app.

I tried the app on my phone, no wonder it didn't work.

Now I just have to remember how I do the firmware update.

What do I flash?

BL
AP
CP
CSC

What about the 5th file, must that go to the one that says "USERDATA"?
You extract download firmware, you get 5 files.
You are only going to flash 4 x files with Odin.
(5th file you don't use at all.! it's a optional file one or the other)
You will notice
files marked( i quote from my above post)

"HOME _CSC_OXF your data stays intact (dirty flash)

You have to choose CSC_OXM plus the other 3 files in Odin This way you phone will be factory resetted."

So you must " NOT" choose "Home _CSC_OXF"...!!!!
If you do you it's a "dirty flash" Data stays intact.
Thus no factory reset,
Your previous CSC plus you 3rd hardcore CSC will remain.!

Choose the other file.. CSC_OXF (factory reset) plus the other remaining 3x files.
If you not sure, confuse etc
Check this straightforward explanation on XDA

Yes it "slightly" different from Note 5 days..!
but similar.!
Just quickly refresh memory with above link.

Good luck
Post note, look at the other 3 x files it self explanatory "named /marked" where it goes in Odin

Nearly forgot.or have you already downloaded.?
Samfirm, make sure your marked......
Check CRC32 and also "decrypt automatically " before downloading.

Also make sure you got correct Odin version. if you flash with old or wrong versions you may "soft brick"
You can get Odin links in @ Henklbr re XDA
post. #1 , #2 or #3

I didn't had CRC32 checked.

Already flashed, restored and running.

1 July Patch showing.
Good to hear you seem happier now!
You don't have to enable CRC32, it's basically only to check if your "file/firmware" downloaded correctly.
I enable it now, as i know when i download, It checks CRC32, if firmware downloaded correctly. ( not missing files and thus corrupt, and you soft bricking device )

However the "decrypt automatically" is important as if you don't enable /tick it, you
sit with a wasted encrypted download and with no way of decrypting the downloaded firmware.!
Anyway glad you sorted matter out.!
