Hi, anyone with a Galaxy Note 9 receive the new Android 9.0 update? I'm with Vodacom, it's not available to me just yet.

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere!

A friend with the Note 9 on Vodacom has had it since Nov, or early December, either way a while already.

If I stick a Vodacom SIM card into my phone for a few days will I also get the update?

Can anyone please confirm if all call recording apps are now no longer working?

Depends on the device, Samsung, Huawei and xiaomi have their own call recording built into the os, others may not. AndroidOne devices do not.

This is an AndroidOne device, the manufacturer has no say on the rollout of the release, its 100% who dictates who gets updates when, your network has nothing to do with it.

As far as I know, not a single device running the Pie OS will be able to record calls as this feature will be removed in total from the OS. A large number of other features will be affected too and no longer be available on PIE.

I have read on an Android forum that this affects all devices, Samsung, Huawei and many more. Many people abroad are not upgrading to Pie due to the many features lost.

Hence the reason I am asking about this. Personally I will not be running this or any other future update on my Note 9.

Google has moved the permission to a system permission, so any manufacturer can enable it in their build or if your device is rooted it can be enabled as well.

Many report have come in that certain Samsung devices, xiaomi and Huawei on android 9 are still working using the manufacturers call recording built into their own dialer. 3rd party applications that do not require root, will not work.

Thanks. Yeah, I do not want to root my device. So, I will not be upgrading to Pie. Neither will it be advisable for any person using their devices as business tools and rely on things such as call recording.

I will hold out and see what Samsung comes up with in future. If they do not come up with a solution in the next year I will probably be giving up on Android and move to iOS on my next contract renewal to ensure that I can have a device capable of call recording.

That's assuming apple does not follow suite as Google has done this for leagal reasons.

They have removed important things and pissed off users for far stupider reasons than the law.

True, but for now there are paid apps in the app store that is capable of working on all devices. A same question was posted on an iOS forum and Apple staff confirmed that the functionality would not be removed. But, I agree, this could happen at any point in time if they are pressured into it, but only time will tell.

For now, and probably the rest of the year I will be happy with my Note 9 and then make the jump.
