Desire S R279 on Anytime 200
Galaxy S R239 on Anytime 200

Also, can I specify that once I have used the R200 it doesn't let me go over that?

Tough choice ... imo Desire has slightly better built quality, Galaxy slightly nippier performance (and probably a better screen) ... given the fact that the Sammy is cheaper that is the direction I would go.

Yes you can ask them to "hardcap" you at R200, if you need additional airtime on the odd occasion you can simply add a topup amount.

I would go desire, but because I prefer HTC's build quality over Sammy

Both are great phones, but I would go with the Desire for the great build quality and HTC Sense UI.

Regarding the contract cap. When you sign for the contract, make sure they set it to the TopUP option, this means that once you hit the R200 cap, you will need to buy your own airtime. Best choice imo as you will never be hit with a massive surprise bill due to some random connection running in the background.

I'd go with the SGS. Personally, I like it's performance.

HI,

Just my 2 cents....

Does HTC have a site where you can download ROM updates that don't require ROOTing?

I know www.samfirmware.com allows you to download proper Samsung updates for your phone.

Some friends of mine are using the HTC desire and they are still running on 2.3.3, where I'm running on 2.3.5 on my SGS2

Thanks

If it was the SGS+ then I'd say go for that...but since it's just the regular SGS I say go for the HTC Desire S.

You wish they would do the same for the Galaxy Tab's thats still on 3.0.1 while the rest of the world is on 3.1 or 3.2

I do root my phones even before the 1st charge is used so I cant comment there, but my old HTC Desire is on 2.3.7

PS: samfirmware is fan driven and not an official Samsung site.

To quote someone from another thread, the old Galaxy S is a dying breed replaced by die S+, so for me a better question would indeed be, Desire S vs Galaxy S+? The Samsung has some impressive specs but the built quality and the lack of camera flash...

My Galaxy S doesn't have a stereo FM radio :( , although it does have RDS.

Sent from my GT-I9000

Does the Galaxy S+ have a metal case or is it only metallic finishing over plastic?
(Bracing myself for asking a possibly very stupid question)

Get the Desire S: superior build quality, its newer, camera has a flash, SenseUI and will probably get ICS Update.

The Desire aint newer my dear Sir :) Unless you're referring to the original Galaxy S... But the S Plus be newer. How does anyone decide which phone to choose these days anyway, is it a randomized thing?
The camera quality on the S+ seems lacking.
