Galaxy S - Wifi disables 3G

Hi,

Please can you assist - what setting must I change so that when my phone pairs with another WIFI device (Drifta) it keeps the data connection alive?

Currently the minute it pairs with Drifta it disables 3G so the decoder cannot validate with Multichoice.

You first need to run the app and let it authentic itself, then you switch on the drifta and let it connect.

Sure, that procedure resolves the connection issue when starting up the Drifta, but the problem is that once the Drifta connects, your data connection is still disabled for the duration that you're using the Drifta (i.e. no Whatsapp, no updates, email, etc).

That's a cellphone thing, once connected to wifi be it android, berry, or blokia it disables the normal data link assuming the wifi is providing an internet connection which is a logical assumption seeing as very few wifi devices actually connect to phones and dont provide internet.

That's exactly where the problem lies Cranial. The Drifta DOES NOT provide an internet connection, but still connects on the Wifi channel.

I have an Eye-Fi card which is an SD card that wirelessly connects from your camera to phone to transfer images from the card. That also connects to the wireless in the same way the Drifta does (ad-hoc wifi connect) but the programmers of that card must have passed an instruction that informs the phone that the card is NOT providing an internet connection, because the 2G/3G data is not disabled when I use the Eye-Fi card.

This is unfortunately not the case with the Drifta.

I have a drifta so know exactly what it does. Androids don't support ad-hoc btw. We are after all talking about multi choice here, did take them 3 years to develope this software and then it only supports like 6 devices unless you do some hacking on your phone. Stupidity is an unfortunate side effect and chances are if they fix it it will be for the 3011 world cup.
