So it finally happened to me too! I had the phone in my pocket while offloading the car after our vacation and when I took it out a while later the screen was totally shattered.

Question 1: Has anybody ever attempted using a replacement screen from EBay or a similar online service? How much did you pay and what was the result like?

Question 2: Can you recommend a repair agent in Johannesburg and what did you pay for the repair?

Thanks a mil guys...

To get it repaired from a samsung accredited repair centre you will be looking at around R3000 to fix :(

R3,000 :(

CAn't you buy a 'new' (second hand) replacement for R3,000?

Got mine replaced at the Vodacom repair center in Somerset West for R1900. I would think that's their standard price? Insurance also covered it, so I only payed the excess.

that is correct, a friend of mine had his replaced after it fell and broke. Was also around the R1900 region at vodacom.

Hahah yeah thats definitely an arm and a leg. If you look around, you can find people selling pretty great condition s3's for around R2.5 - R3k. I am/was in that boat :p. But yeah, vodacom's repair fees are ludicrous. But at least you keep your warranty and things wont be stolen or replaced with generics.
