Galaxy S3 not connecting to network

I got my Galaxy S3 yesterday and went through the whole process of charging before putting in the sim. The problem is that it doesn't want to connect to any network. I tried manually connecting to a network but still no luck. I phoned Vodacom customer care and they said there is nothing wrong with the sim, it has been registered, Rica....

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

All I took away from that is that you willingly took out a Vodacom contract...

And three days before the S4 announcement.

If it is a LTE phone try changing the network mode to 3G only or 2G only. See if that makes a difference?

Ockie might be on to something. What is the exact model of your phone? GT-i9300? Does it have a custom ROM installed?

Are you in a rural location by any chance? My wife's S3 did not want to connect (she is on 8ta, which piggybacks on MTN in our area). We had to change to settings to get it working. It was the only way
