Guys need some help.
Got the phone from Ockie ( awesome service as usual) now my issue is I have a contract Sim on mtn in a 3G dongle, with 2 gigs data.

I have an OTG cable and it all connects.

Surely there is a way to use this dongle on the phone so I can use this for data?

Prettty much like using it on a pc for eg.

Elimentals - this is your line of expertise.

I know this is a crazy way of doing things but I cannot justify paying vodacom's criminal prices.

R349 for 2 gigs is absolutely disgusting, I cannot believe in 2012 this is what we are being charged.

Some help please guys

Howzit meneer.

Only way I can think of is like a mini 3G router like the Vodafone R205. It is a small little wifi router that has got a battery so you can carry it around with you.

If someone here dont come up with a better solution...let me know.

Thanks Ockie - as usual you are the man ;)

Plesier meneer. You have mail.

In case the boys here dont come up with a way, you can use my idea as a back up plan and last resort.

As far as i know the OTG cable is for connecting external drives not modems. Only way you will get that modem working is if someone has already written drivers specifically for that modem for your phone.
You even need a custom kernel to use the OTG for NTFS formatted drives as natively it only supports Fat and FAT32.

If you own a S2 as well like myself (or any other android for that matter) you can always use it as a mobile hotspot, mine comes in handy very often. It also doubles as a backup phone in case of emergencies.

I think you need a kernel with the correct modules required and then a script to set up connection. Ginggs might be able to help with the script, but without the kernel enabling the function, you might be stuck. Head over to XDA S3 kernel threads and see which ones will support external modems.

If this is not available (yet), then Ockie has the best answer.
