+1. I get about a day with moderate usage. All the fancy eye sensors etc turned off.

The Exchange services email apps are absolutely killing her battery, it's crazy.

Is it your mom's work email she is running on the phone?

If not, I would suggest running the mail account through Gmail or Hotmail, which will give it push capability.

The problem with the mail app is that is will connect every 5/10/15 mins (you can change it to longer intervals) to her mailbox to check if there's new email, which will drain any battery fast.

Yes its her work emails that are hooked up to the exchange server, i think the settings are set to "push", should i change that?

+1 Set it to push the emails through so it doesn't continuously check for mails and use cpu.

The problem is Exchange. It doesn't seem to work properly on Kitkat.

Here is a possible solution I have found :

1. Log into OWA.
2. Go to mobile devices. (On my account every phone I ever had connected to exhange was listed.)
3. Delete all of them. (Including the one you have now.)

On your phone :
4. Force stop
5. Clear data and cache
6. Delete account.
7. Restart
8. Re-add exchange services.

Good luck!!

Whats that?

Whats that?

Outlook Web Access

*For when your mom is not connected on the Exchange server, she can still access her mail via a web interface.

Normally owa.mycompany.co.za or mail.mycompany.co.za, etc.

Ok this doesnt work because her company uses Exchange ActiveSync.

What can she do now?

Yeah they should have web portal for exchange
Here are some more examples

https://mymail.mycompany.co.za or https://mail.mycompany.co.za/owa

Check the exchange server address you use on the phone to setup the account and use that when trying to access web portal

https://(serveraddressfromphone)

or just ask your mom to find out from the IT guys at work how to access her emails from a website, they should give her the address.

To find mobile device settings:

1: Click Options (Right Top corner)
2: See all Options
3: Phone (Should bring up mobile devices)
