Hey all

Just curious ...

Has anyone downloaded and tried the "new" lollipop update on the S5.

I have downloaded it but not installed it yet as I heard there was problems with it.

Regards

Just installed it today.
Have not found any problems yet.

I had to reset my phone as it became too sluggish after the update. But it seems fine now.

That is what I read and that it has a lot of bugs like battery life being shorter and the phone itself being much slower (not sure if it has to do with more ram usage, mine uses 1.7gb as is)

After I reset my phone, the batter usage actually seems slightly better.

I'm using the Dirty Unicorn ROM. Just over two weeks and its still working well.

Using 5.0 for more than 2 monts now and it stable. Downloaed the rom directly from samsung when it was first released

Downloaded OTA yesterday, got a few random errors upon first boot but they seemed to have corrected themselves since then. Like the look of the more white UI vs the previous black UI.

Not great for me (Version 5.0) on my S5. It shows the message about checking the battery cover about half the time after unlocking it. Randomly shows a warning that the SD card "unexpectedly" unmounted, and then remounts it. Some apps now use much more battery than they did before. Loses signal to cell provider intermittently. Didn't experience any of this on Kit-Kat. New task switcher app is sluggish.

The S6 Edge, with the same provider, is on 5.0.2 FWIW.

I could do factory reset, but meh... shlep.

So I ran the update on Sat and I must say, the slow battery cover message doesn't bother me as much as the freaking whatsapp notification that comes up and lingers for like 30+ seconds no matter if you are watching a movie or playing a game.

I have turned that all off in whatsapp but it still does it ... ... damnit android ... haha

I have noticed what looks like lag when transitioning between certain screens but then it snaps into place so I am not sure if that's lag or an effect

Apart from that, it seems to be running well

Just checked under hidden "Developer options" menu, but there is nothing related to disabling these notifications.

If I restored the device to factory settings, I could restore settings, etc. from the cloud and would just have to reinstall the apps I use. I'd have to backup photos and other files first, of course. Anything else I should think about?

Personally not enjoying lollipop too much in all honesty, firstly it took ages to be released in South Africa so there was a lot of hype and it died before we even got the update. Second "improved battery life" honestly can say that I'm not seeing that. I also prefer the way that lollipop looks on the S6. I often find the S5 variant to be slightly sluggish or my apps crash a lot. Hopefully things get better soon.

I wiped the cache partition and then restored to factory settings. Only installed two apps so far, but all the problems I described earlier are gone :)
