Galaxy S8 - Auto brightness disabled by apps?

I've noticed that when I use the Bootlegger coffee app my auto adaptive/brightness is disabled and the screen is set to almost full brightness. I then I have to enable adaptive display again.
Anyone else noticed this?
I'm running G950FXXU3CRGH firmware.
