Does the galaxy TAB have a usb port, and would you be able to run program from ext drive/flash?
Thanks guys..

Hi there

No, it does'nt have a USB port, and yes, some applications DO support moving to SD Card.

If you want to use an ext. drive - you could look into a new technology called USB on-the-go which allows you to utilize external storage like Flash drives and ext hdd.

Will the USB on the go work with Galaxy TAB?
What would it use if no usb on TAB?

1st let me ask, what applications you thinking of running on a tablet that you ask this question?

Cause tablets dont run PC software.

It's not a commonly used technology in SA yet, but it's slated to work 100% on Android Devices which is what the Galaxy TAB is.

The most popular Tablets come in 3 Flavours - PC (Anything you can install on PC), Apple(Ios) and Android.

The only reason you'd want external media attached to a Tablet is for storage purposes (Large volume of documents or multimedia storage) - you should never run actual applications off external devices.

Erm.... that is called a slate ;)

My brother wants to use it in his tyre business.
He wants to use it with office (android has one i think?)
5 shops so best would be to have 5 sd cards(one for each shop)

To be honest... I HAVE a Galaxy tab... and an HTC Desire Z.

The Galaxy Tab DOES feel like a slate since ALL the apps on it right are just stretched android apps because of lack of Tablet software available. - which feels kinda strange, because it's all too big when compared to the Desire Z - which runs all the same software anyway AND has a hardware Keyboard!.

I have a Galaxy Tab and you can connect it via USB to your PC. You can install applications onto the extra SD card if you wish.

Well if he wants to run his accounting I would say look for Online accounting software that can be used with any Device, even a PC so that he is not limited to one device.

On the Office part yes you have Polaris, Quickoffice and Documents on the go or even Google Docs(that can be used online). Even with them being able to open, edit and use Microsoft Office documents I wont run a business off the Android ones, maybe Google Docs yes.

But to answer your question, You can store documents on remote media and swap them out no problem but I will not advise installing software on hot swappable media even if it can be done.

You should have known that the GT 7" was just a blown up android device (remember when iOS for the iPad was initially just a blown up iPod Touch, same thing)

Honeycomb is gaining traction with quite a few native apps. 1 problem though is that the 10.1 wifi tab is probably going to cost R6400 around that region

For work stuff where you need office programs, nothing beats Windows 7 with MS Office. As much as I wish we could avoid it, nothing compares to MS Office.

Ok just spoken to him,he wanst to use something like a payroll on it.
You guys know any app that can do that, also had a look at the new acer tab which is not bad.

Thanks Madd, also think PC/laptop would be best.
You reckon the acer is better than galaxy?
Also the problem with PC's is the software is VERY expensive, the program he wanted to use is like 10K and then a further 2K a year..

Better than that 7-inch one yes. Similar to the 10-inch one plus it has a working full size USB port that you can use to connect keyboards, flash disks and portable USB hard drives.
