Hi everybody.

Does anybody know why the Galaxy Tab S has been discontinued in South Africa? Every cellular company I call says it has been but nobody can tell me why.

I believe the FNB smart device dept is the only method of obtaining one now and they also had stock issues over the last 3 or more months. I am keen on getting one but not at the cost of buying a device that's no longer supported.

Please let me know if you find out as well. I have contacted Samsung and they told me it is available at places, but cash only.

I cannot for the life of me understand why the damn cell companies did this. These are new products. Vodacom still advertises it in all of their brochures. But try and get hold of one.

Cannot believe it is such a mission. Good luck mate, but i have given up.

Yeah I've been looking since about November last year. FNB then got the 8" one a couple weeks ago in stock again and now they have the 10.5" as well.

Should we expect it to become available as contract options in the near future again or do we hold out until May-ish when the next range is announced?

And yet the catalogues have been overflowing with deals on it since I started looking but always the "it's been discontinued" when you enquire. Annoying.

Hmmmm, I have both the 10.5 " Tab S and also the 8" Tab S.

I bought the 10.5" Tab S in August 2014 from the Samsung store, waterfront Cape Town

and the smaller 8" Tab S I bought on contract from Vodacom in November 2014

A bit worrying if they have discontinued them so quickly. They are great devices - only issue I have is that they were only available in 16 GB storage space grrrrrrrr. After the Android and system OS, there is only about 12 GB free....and the external SD card does not work properly under KitKat with these tablets. I'm hoping Lollipop will fix it.

Clearly Samsung sold these with such small storage space, hoping users would soon trade up. SS memory is cheap and abundant now. Jeez you can buy 128 GB SD cards....why put 16 GB in there...

Just waking up this thread again. Did anyone get any answers to the OPs questions eventually? Got a s10.5 myself and my concern is if there will be a lollipop update for SA. Previous to this tablet, I had a galaxy tab 8.9. On that unit they rolled out android 3.2, but never 4.0 in SA. BOTH Vodacom and Samsung said it was pending, for many months, but it never happened. I eventually loaded the generic Samsung UK version I think, which was major improvement of over 3.2, but you void your warranty. I'm now concerned Samsung/Vodacom will do the same again, because they both have the same 'problem' : they are not big sellers (albeit for different reasons)

If you download and install a stock version from another country, the warranty will be intact.

If that is true, I'm very happy to hear it. How do you come by that information? Also, if I brick the unit doing the upgrade is that still covered? Suppose the only way I'll know for certain is to contact Samsung SA and confirm that (and wait weeks for them to do so if it works like last time)
