Johannesburg - The settlement between the ANC and the Goodman Gallery did not include an agreement on removing the picture from the gallery's website, but the gallery director said the image would be taken down from the website at some point.

Goodman Gallery director Liza Essers was speaking at a joint media briefing between the ANC and the Goodman Gallery, announcing a settlement agreement on the controversial artwork which depicts President Jacob Zuma with his genitals exposed.

Essers said the painting would not be displayed in the gallery because it had been defaced.

The settlement agreement with the ANC did not include an agreement on removing the picture from the Goodman Gallery's website.

However, she said the image would be taken down from the website at some point.

Now that a settlement had been reached, the court action in the South Gauteng High Court was no longer necessary, said ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu.

"Indeed, we are no longer taking the Goodman Gallery to court. We are no longer taking City Press to court."

"There is no need for us to continue taking City Press to court, or the Goodman Gallery to court. It would not make sense," said Mthembu.

The ANC went to court to get the painting removed from the gallery, and also took the City Press to court because it had published a picture of the painting on its website.

Meanwhile, the Film and Publications Board was expected to decide by the end of the week on whether the painting should be classified.

They would have lost in court. I have the picture on my blog still and will NOT be taking it down. Zuma... welcome to the Streisand Effect. Your actions have being immortalized.
 
Post what happened on Reddit, Zuma's penis will be forever immortalized on the internet for everyone to see. If the ANC wants to make such a big deal of it, I say lets make a big deal and show the international community and show how silly this whole thing was.

They'll probably threaten to "closer" down Google as well. Not that it would help them much. I doubt zoom zoom or his cronies know how the intertubes actually work.

If the interwebs refuses to remove the images then the ANC will take the interwebs to court! :mad:

Besides for too long this white racist imperialist interwebs has tarnished the good name of our proud and noble organisation in an attempt to give the neo-apartheid forces of today a foot in the door to retake control of this great land filled with bountiful tenders!!
 
What difference does it make now anyway....

The Painting was displayed... thousands of people saw it.
Pictures were taken, it was uploaded to the internet, millions more saw it.
Parodies were drawn, fun was made, Zuma was made to look like even more of an idiot along with all of his puppet stooges.
The Painting was sold, the gallery and the artist made their point and made their money. No loss to them.

The only net result is that the ANC managed to polarise the nation even more along racial lines.
But we have learned to expect that from them now.

So yeah.... the court case is a moot point now.

What exactly are they going to classify? The painting? It's a mess with nothing to see, not that Free Willy had anything worth seeing. You face the prospect, say, of those Friday night ETV movies having black bands over bits still being rated 18. Sort of makes you want to ask what rating they'd give something that has all the wobbly bits in full view

I'm sure I read yesterday that the FPB admitted they have no jurisdiction over classifying paintings but they'll go ahead and classify it anyway.

Nope. It was said the FPB does not have jurisdiction over newspapers (City Press) as that falls under the jurisdiction of the press ombudsman.
