Game-changing rotary engine muscles a go-kart

Even better, the engine's design means that it has no poppet valves and exhaust is balanced through over-expansion, removing the need for a muffler. The X rotary engine can be as much as 20 percent more fuel efficient than its gasoline counterpart and 50 percent more efficient than an equivalent diesel engine. What's more, the LiquidPiston X can be powered by gasoline, diesel, natural gas, or JP-8 fuel. The design, says the company, is scalable from 1 horsepower to over 1,000

I wish that these motors had received the attention and research they deserved. Imagine where we could be by now.

It would be, just like the Axial engine:

There's a reason rotary engines fell out of fashion.

They burn small amounts of oil. All rotary engines do this, nomral rotary (like this one and the one in the RX8), axial and MYT (which to me seems far more awesome than the normal design). Therefore they all dont meet required global emmision standards. Fun on a go-kart or tractor, but will never be used for transport or power generation.

Now let me tell you where it is at: Sterling Engines. That's the next big thing for hybrid cars- mark my words :)
