HI,

I have some games on my pc that my son playes that normaly used to run perfect, e.g. sniper 3. Now all of a sudden all the games lag and are very slow even mx vs atv which he loves.

What can this be?

I checked for viruses or malware etc... clean

Thanks

windows 7 64
I3
8 gb ram
geforce 9600

Does your son regularly use the computer? Not so sure that there aren't any viruses or malware. What AV did you use?

also what u can do it

diafrag the pc
update the graphics drivers
and just give it a good clean (dust)

and test then, some times dust builds up,it over heats then then the pc "throttle" it self

Yes he does, I use trend and malware bytes

Have you considered the possibility that he may just have discovered there are naked women on the internet? :p Try using the free trial of Nod to make sure there aren't viruses.

Could it be overheating (a sign is if things run fine initially and get worse as the uptime increases)? If it's a desktop, can you open it up and ensure that the fans aren't clogged with dust?

Try running a memtest too. Any weird clicks from the hard drive?

Windows 7 uses NTFS, so defrag is redundant.

ya i kinda forgot about that :/ i never did that when i was on 7 and now on 8

he still can defrag it tho,and just get the basic stuff out b4 going into hardware

Graphics drivers updated, all dust cleaned out and new heat paste applied etc.

Just havent defraged the pc

All fans, heat sinks etc cleaned out. No funny click noises from hard drive

Mem test fine

I have seen some spikes in CPU activity tough?

Something I would check is hitting ctrl+shift+esc while the game is running and check the memory and CPU usage. If they're sitting near 100%, check when the PC is sitting idle in Windows. If it is still high, you'll need to check what programs are causing the high usage and close them.

Often if your anti-virus is running a scan or another program is chewing your resources, your games will struggle.

Windows 7 usually takes care of defrag automatically.

I had a problem with games running bad, on Windows 8.1 though, where I had to disable BITS, Windows search and Superfetch in the services. Also, had it that Chrome was chowing CPU at 100% usage. Something you can look at too.
