Game R13999 3 LCD's ?

Okay, I was in at game, and they have 3 brands of LCD full HD Tv's all going for R13999:
1) The LG http://ae.lge.com/products/model/detail/42lg50fr.jhtml

The first 2 are 42" while the Sony is 40".
Having told the salesman that Macro is selling the same model Sony for R12999, he said no problem , he could match the price.
Now Macro will give 1 year warranty, but at Game I can purchase with a little more , an extended 4 year warranty, so my natural choice of shop will be Game, but for the original price of R13999, I now have a choice of 3.

After seeing the 3 next to each other, I wasnt all that impressed with the Sony, so the toss up is between LG and Philips.
Does anybody have or know of anybody who has either of these models, and are they/you satisfied with the model?
 
3 pieces of advice (use it or not, as you please):

1. Buy the Sony (The video processor is far superior to the LG or Philips). LG has issues with HDCP in some of its models as well... check the DSTV forums. Also, only your girlfriend is concerned about an extra 2 inches (it isn't obvious in terms of the screen size).
2. Don't buy an extended warranty, it's a sucker game. Rather put that money aside in an interest bearing deposit. If the screen fails, use it, if it doesn't you've saved some money. Also, check the terms of your household insurance... some faults are claimable on your existing insurance.
3. Don't buy from Game. You'll get the same price and better service from an independent smaller dealer. PM me your location and I'll give you some names in the area.

Dont know the brand, have or own products from all of the 3 brands, and have not had problems with any of them, so I would prefer to stick to known brands.

Always appreciate sound advice, The space that my TV would occupy would take any of the 3 dimesion wise, and from my current 80cm either would be fine.
Have read a few threads , and have come across HDMI issues with both the LG and Philips, but it seems the solution was a firmware upgrade on both, so that would inherently nulify the issue anyway.
A few people have mentioned colour saturation issues WRT the Sony, but it could be rectified by playing with the settings i suppose.
The extended warrant idea is good if I would be going over 1K or so , but at 4 - 5 hundred extra, it doesnt really matter.

I can tell you from experience, that the Sinotech is a decent brand.. if a bit underrated.

I am looking at getting a 2nd, bigger one in the not too distant future.
 
I'd go for the Sony. I don't have a problem with Game - and find there warranty handling pretty good - so far with me anyway, most items have been swapped out almost immediately, even 3 months after purchase.

BTW. Game are supposed to BEAT the price, not match it, according to their policy it should be the price you found it cheaper - 10%.

When I tested the Philips, I found it to be terrible in dark scene's with lots of action, the ghosting was awful - was like being drugged. Try get a video of a rock concert or something with fans jumping up and down, play that at the store...
 
I used my pc with the Phillips 1 on new years eve and it worked very nice and it got 5 inputs "HDMI, RCA and 15 pin VGA plug.

We watched movies and played music through the pc.

The tv also have nice sound and bass "speakers at the back of the screen"

I got a pic of the tv with my pc next to it.

I would recommend the Phillips, I also want 1 for my pc

Technical-minded forumites here are extremely happy with theirs. I too will be going with Sinotec in the near future.

Sinotec has a 5 year warranty. What do the LG, Philips and Sony have?
 
i have 3 42 inch sinotechs and am very happy with them and it also comes with a 5 year warranty unlike at games u have to purchase an extended warranty.. and i was quiet impressed with the back up from sinotech had a problem with 1 of the tvs and contacted sinotech and there was no hassle was told to go back to makro and pick up a brand spanking new tv - now thats what i call service and i can guarantee you that LG or philips or samsung or sony will NEVER EVER do that

I'm very happy with my Phillips, and don't agree with the comment that there is any ghosting. Even using it for pc gaming sometimes is pretty awesome. If you are in doubt go for "made in Japan":D

I was told to stay away from LG as they tend to get dead pixels easily. I got the Sony and I'm very pleased.
 
I as checking these out as well and - although arf9999 said it doesn't matter - the 40" of the Sony put me off :(

I don't want to go backwards in size ... even if only 2" :/
 
+1 for Sony, really happy with mine.

I'd get a Sinotec(better than other no names) if I couldn't afford a Sony/Samsung. A guy at Audio Video Gallery told me that Sinotec use LG/Samsung 1st gen panels, hence the cheaper price. Another thing is pick one which looks decent and doesn't feel like its made out of paper thin plastic, that was my only major gripe with the Sinotecs. When spending a large some of money im sure you will want it to look good in your home to, like a piece of art :)
 
a bit OT, i went to game in eastgate and stood there watching the wall of lcds when i noticed the hd pvr behind one of the lcds, being the nosey twitcher that i am i casually walked and changed it to channel to 170 only to find out the movie "heartbreak kid" is on, now if anyone has watched that movie they know what goes on in it :D

so i pressed the red button, which i thought was the "alt" button because i dont own a hd pvr, and a menu popped up:eek: so i pressed exit, put the remote down and darted off behind the fridges:D

least they had the HD feed running...

Last time I was in game the moron tried to argue with me that the HD PVR made EVERYTHING HD.....
 
is the sinotech 42" the biggest lcd they have? what's the biggest lcd around
