Gaming and movie headset

Budget? I have Sennheiser HD485, very nice! Otherwise look at Roccat Kave.
 
NOT necessarily budget, but ease of purchasing is a better way. IC dont have any cool ones. where did u get that?
 
I wanted the logitech G35's but Rectral didnt have stock. So I took a pair of Somic E95's from Matrix PC Warehouse. I must say, for R340 I am pleasantly surprised. Very comfy, excellent sound (5.1) and the mic is super clear. I was weary of getting them, sort of an unknown chinese brand, and not a hell of a lot of info online about them. But I managed to get them working 100% on my Win7 X64 (downloaded driver from the chinese site).

OKAY I LOOKED at the g35 and there is the razor megalodon. does anyone know anything about it?
 
Gaming headsets are usually not so great for watching movies. However, there are some exceptions to the rule. You could go out and buy some Sennheiser PC 350's. They are in the R3.5k price range. However this is only if you absolutely need your microphone on your headset.

You could go this route: Sennheiser HD555 and the Zalman Hi Sense Microphone. The two together won't cost you more than R1.5k.

Both options will give you excellent audio quality. Also, it would be a good thing for you to have a decent sound card. Those on board ones are sh*t.
 
@ Phil: What you end up getting? Never knew you could get 5.1 in headphones- if those work well for gaming surround sound, I'm in... Got a Matrix round the corner :p
 
Rather get Sennheisers than buying the top-end Logitech or Razer's.

Sennheiser has much better sound reproduction for movies, and gaming goes down well too..

For the same price (or less) you can get 2x the quality if you buy Sennheiser.
 
Pfft the 350's are actually closer to R2.5k nowadays, the price has come down. Plus the HD595's are cheaper and better than the PC 350's the only catch they don't have a built in mic. But my little R100 cheapo mic does JUST fine for yelling at clan mates.

Personally Sennheiser ALL the way, gaming brands like Logitech / Razer / Roccat are awesome for gaming but mostly fall short when it comes to music / movies. Sennheiser dominates all of them in the SA market. Sennies > all.

Google for reviews or match ups when it comes to Logitech vs Sennheiser. The sennies win everytime. Side note, the HD555 which is the same speaker as the PC350's cost around R1.4k. Check prophecy for prices.
 
okay, so I know this is a few months late, been super busy, couldnt even buy a headset in this period. so it is christmas now and so will become my chrismtas present. i think i would rather go for quality. I went to audiovision and they had the HD 555, HD 515, HD202 and RS 160 , RS 170. They are quite expensive. I some of them were surround sound and some were wireless. i need to decide wich route to take. i watch waay more tv than play games so i think the sennheiser quality should be the thing to get. Also where would you recommend me getting them from? Audiovision would be last resort.

You don't, it's a marketing con. In order to get 5.1 you need 6 speakers irrespective of what any marketroid says.
 
I went to sennheiser.co.za and checked what is available. The HD 555 and HD515 and HD595 look cool, but it is hard to tell them apart? what exactly is different? They are also non wireless. Should I go for a wireless one? I also saw the HD598 :love: They look spectacular. Just need to find them in stock somewhere. Prophecy did not have them.
