I just moved from playing my games on a laptop to a pc...

Laptop had built in mike and I used normally in-ear headphones... ?

Can anyone recommend a mike and headphone option for for gaming ?

Preferable in ear..

I have the Cyber Snipa 5.1 surround sound headset and its brilliant great surround sound and havent had any problems with it

Depending on what you want to pay. You could get a pair of logitechs for quite cheap or a set of sennheisers for $$$. oO

What is your budget? And do you want really good headphones (Sennies) and then use a seperate mic, or do you want to sacrifice headphone quality and use one with an attached microphone?

I personally use HD595's and have used headsets all the way from Genius 125 rand things to logitech gamer headsets and finally these HD's and the HD's are the hawtness!

Filthy HD's....

/me must not look.

The Sennheiser PC350's are hot. Got the attached mic. Oo

Yeah but the 350's are just rebranded HD555's and they cost the same as the 595's :D

Personally from using the 350 and the 595, I will use the 595 forever and ever !

Got the cyber snipa 5.1 so far so good did not try the mike out yet only got them a few days ago.

But the sound is quite good

Only heard good things about the cyber snipa.. think that could be your best bet if you want a mic attached.
Personally i would go with sennheisers if you have the cash.
Even my 6 year old HD495 are still working amazingly awesome :D

The surround sound is great on the Cyber Snipa its got 5 speakers in each head section which includes the subwoofer

I have never used 5.1 headphones for one reason. Physics tells me that subwoofers and surround sound that close to you ears just is not that practical. Just a thought use it don't use it

That's probably true. But the sound from the headset is awesome nevertheless. I guess everyone has different opinions and greggpb has to decide. I think its the best value for money Although. I paid R429 from Matrix Warehouse.

Here's a review on the Cyber Snipa 5.1 on Guru3d

I agree , i had those snipa earphones and they broke. I then bought my skullcandy earphones and their quality is a lot better :)
Plus they have a lifetime warranty.

SkullCandy have in my opinion have a great headset here, not only does it sound good, it comes with the best warranty in the market, come on do you think any of the other brands would replace the unit at 50% of the cost if you jump up like a lunatic to celebrate and snap the cable? I think not, and you just would be silly to ignore that kind of warranty!

Review Here for the Skullcandy ComTi`s

Logitech G35 Surround Gaming Headset

Does anyone know of a shop in Durban that sells these where I can go and have a look at the quality?

Logitech G35 if you have a budget :)
Yes that the one I'm looking for. As far as I can see from the specs and reviews this seems to be a very good set of headphones. It's a bit pricy but I don't mind paying more if the quality (both build quality and sound quality) makes it worth while.

I'm almost at a point where I'm ready to order one online but would prefer if I can see and purchase one from a regular brick-n-mortar shop.
