My desktop just blew (replaced PSU and still no luck) so Im thinking of getting a laptop instead for convienience and portability. Any suggestions?
I guess Ill be playing BF2 and maybe hl2 etc...but if it can handle newer titlers Ill be thrilled.
Idealy Id like dvi out so I can hook up a decent size monitor so the laptop monitor becomes less important. Pluging in a seperate kybd wld be good too, Im a Micro$oft ergonomic bent kybd fan. Obviously cheap is good. 2GB ram and core 2 duo if poss, no idea about the gfx chipsets needed or out now for laptop gaming.

A high-end gaming laptop will set you back +R20,000. Why not get a high end desktop with NVidia 8800GT card for R10,000.

tommy how much you got to spend?

hopefully 15-18k man and that might not enough

not imagine an 18k desktop

ouch!...was hoping to spend under 10k :)
I think it may have to be desktop. I dj a bit and currently use an old desktop (2 soundcards)
but a laptop would help me a great deal. Im happy to buy second hand too. I see some amazingly good deals on gumtree.co.za, almost look too good to be true...or stolen....

I haved a Dell M90 - SUPERB gaming notebook. The replacement is a Dell M6300 - also very good for gaming. Silent, portable etc, etc. Well worth the money if u can spare it.

I have the Aspire 5920 (2ghz C2D, 2Gb Ram, 1Gb Turbo Cache, 8600m GS) the above games work fine but can not cope with Crysis. Bioshock runs but not great.

Drivers tend to be your main issue. They don't seem to release new drivers for laptops so you have to get 'hacked' drivers which work but were not made for laptops.

I think the only gfx card worth while at the moment is the 8800m but a laptop with one of them will cost a small fortune. I am prob gonna sell my laptop and buy a desktop instead.

buy a cool desktop for about 8k, then use the rest (2k) to get an okay 2nd hand work laptop. You'll only be running music mixing programs on the laptop.
