Gaming notebook?????

I am getting a notebook for a) Entertainment (games, movies, music) and b) work. Size does not really count but cost does. As much as I would love a Rock SLI or Alienware machine cost does not permit it. I have narrowed it down to either the Dell 1520/1720 or the Acer Aspire 5920. Are there any others I am missing out on besides Macbooks (NOT a Mac fan)? Does any one have either of these laptops that can offer any advise or opinions?

Dell seem to have the whole package... and check out the 3 year warenttyy because of the wierd dicount structure.. mine landed up cheaper with a 3 year warentee than with a 1 year
 
I will be getting from overseas but the conversion works out to be R12500 for the Dell and R11500 for the Acer.
 
Well, ye, Laptops are not ideal in any way for gaming, unless ur gonna be playing older titles. Then still.
 
lmao, IC sells the Acer for R18k... We really get screwed here! I am now swaying towards the Acer based on reviews and the amount of "magazine awards" it has got. It seems a pretty good desktop replacement and based on the 3dMark 06, 3900, it handles gaming well.
 
Hi, maybe consider looking at Sager notebooks, specifically the 17" NP9260 for pretty potent performance levels (they quote 3dmark of 9000!) or NP5790 for a more svelte machine? But take the online prices as a guideline only, we're doing local-supply of some of the components to bring costs down. Besides which, the final cost obviously depends on the final specification you choose.
 
Hi James, I have the Dell Inspiron 1720. It's an excellent machine. I don't play any games so I cannot comment on it's performance in that department.

I'd be happy to answer any questions, or try to run a game, etc?
 
My Acer Travelmate 5624WSMi flies with games - Aspire is newer, so maybe better?

Had zero prob with Acer so far - bought extended 3 year warranty tho just to be sure ;)

Bought at ComXpert Computers (online RSA) and had good service.
 
Not 1 person here has mentioned Asus ... they make awesome laptops. I would recommend the Asus G1 for you because it is designed for gaming. The G2 as well. They also cost in the region of 19-20k here ... dunno overseas ... but the nice thing is they offer you a 2 year global warranty ... so you don't have to worry about problems because you bought it elsewhere.
The specs are also brilliant, and Asus gives great service ... at least here they do ... I destroyed my battery and broke my screen on two different occasions ... and they replaced both by the next day ... no hassles at all.

Great laptops ... great company ... would definately recommend
