gaming on 42" lcd

Well actually most 26" LCD TV's are now 720P. Or at least those from the more well known brands. A PC monitor is nice, but viewing angles are crap, black light bleed can be insane (there have been enough threads regarding this problem), they often only come with a VGA, DVI and occasionally HDMI port, and the price of a good 24" is usually at least 6K. Not everyone only views their screen while directly sitting in front of it. And even at times, if you start slouching the view darkens. I mean WTH? You'd at least expect the screen to display a decent picture when you're an arms length away from it. This 160 degree vertical viewing angle that TN panels claim is more like 45degrees.

Maybe for some, but my screens work great for wide angles. I don't have an issue with this at all. And sitting 10cm away from a 30inch
at 4megapixels gives you an IMAX like effect without any loss of detail :). Ok, also depends on your hardware but the
2 games I played on my Mac look great :).

Same can be said for 24 and 26 inches.

if you wait a few minutes i'll upload a few pics of what it looks like to game on a 42" FullHD LCD.

If you don't mind, I won't get out my camera and upload what it looks
like to game on a 4 megapixel (2560 by 1600 screen at 30 inches). :)

I'm not trying to brag here, but pointing out to you that equipment should
be used for its intended purpose. If LCD TVs made great PC monitors,
we'd all be using them - but they don't. However, if it works
for you - carry on - at the end of the day the user has to decide
himself or herself.

I have the Samsung LA37R81. It's HD ready (1366 x 768). It has a D-Sub as a PC input. Hook up my PC DVI -> D-Sub at 1366 x 768. I sit 2 to 3 metres away and from that distance I don't notice the pixelation. I love it.

I have a 9600GT with 2 DVI, 1 HDMI and 1 Display Port out (can play all games smoothly graphics maxed at this res, even Crysis). I recently tried hooking up to the TV via HDMI (to get sound through the TV instead of having to move speakers to the TV). Problem I had was that the TV will only accept 720p resolution (1280 x 720) via HDMI, which the TV stretches to 1366 x 768. It looks not sharp. Even when I set a games resolution to 1366 x 768 it still looks like it's a stretched 720p resolution. I don't know if I'm missing something, but a tried a few things and can't get the image to look sharp.

There is an audio in (round black socket) next to the D-sub port. Apparently, to get audio when hooked up through the PC Input (D-sub) you have to plug your audio in here. I don't know what connection it is (I must go find the manual), and I don't know how/if you connect this to the PC audio out jack.

I know this is my own problem and I might be hijacking, but these are things to consider when hooking up a PC to a HDTV. PC connected to HDTV via D-sub works great.

And i thought i was happy when i got my 19" Wide Monitor !:eek::D
