Gaming on Telkom 3G

Dont know if this has been posted before but I would like to know how this fares in the gaming area...

Im at a point where I need to decide what to install and this looks tempting but would also like to use it to play games like Modern Warfare 2 and so on....
 
Well even on a good connection I used to get +- 600ms to 800ms to overseas servers on my vodacom hsdpa connection.

I think even if telkom's 3g is better than vodacom it still wont do well for MW2

I tried a vodacom 3g connection last night and played COD4 locally and got a ping of around 100-110. The ping got higher to 150 when the thunderstorm outside got worse.

I was just hoping that the Telkom version will be +- the same or maybe better.
 
VC 3g plays ok with MW2, as long as you play with local friends. Once you're playing with users from Europe or US, it is not ok anymore.

I am also wondering if this telkom 3g will be the same/better or worse???

Lets hope someone out there already tried this and will give us an answer :)
 
I used to play CoD WaW on telkom 3g and my ping to sgs servers was about 89-97 ms most of the time. Some overseas servers were mostly 190-270 ms.
I think the lowest one I got was i-game or something with 79ms, but there were never any players on it ,or I was doing something wrong.

I Don't believe I had ever had dropped connections.

Thx for the reply... I got mine yesterday but telkom forgot to register my sim card so I could not log on with it. I will try again over the weekend and submit my findings on monday for the rest if they want to see some stats...
 
I play with V3G, Battle for Middle Earth 2, internationally. I have pings of less than 400ms with most people which is good enough. However local latency is around 120ms.
 
Please don't waste your time trying to play games with a 3G-like connection... you will hurt yourself, not entertain yourself

I game HAPPILY on vodacoms HSDPA..........:rolleyes::cool:

I play matches where telkom adsl users have to log out although im using a PS3

I dont think its a waste anymore..

Playing modern warfare 2 with full green bars and call of duty 4 with around 80 ping. No packet loss and no disconnects.

I really dont think there is a huge difference between 60 ping and 80 ping which is what I got when I had my adsl line
 
I played fifa with a mate online with his 3g connection it was totally unusable. perhaps its different to FPS. I'm gonna copy this link to him to give him some hope ;)
