Fellow gamers.

I've been experiencing a gaming slum recently. Its just not exciting me as much as it used to. I am not that young that you can say that I've grown out of it.

Even when I get a chance to play a top game in my favourite genre, its like, yeah nice, but hardly the motivation to 'play through the night', like I used to have.

My fav time to game is Sat and Sund mornings, and I still do but where before I would lose track of the world and play now after a while I get bored and rather switch off and watch tv than persist. Its like I've gone off gaming a bit, and I don't know why.

And its not lack of hardware (I have all three, xbox, ps 3 and ps4) and its not lack of games.

I'd like to get back to the gamer that I was.

Any suggestions/ similar experiences ?

Same happened to me. I stopped playing period, got expelled by my clan (Crak) respect to them and didn't switch my pc on for more than a year.

The break did me good. Now I only play for fun. No competing, so I have less frustration and expectation. Just take a sabbatical. If you love gaming you'll be back.

Is this like a why-am-I-not-addicted-to-gaming-anymore support group?

In my case, I think I just grew up and real life got in the way. Damn you, real life!

It happens. Just take a break from gaming for a while. I used to be a huge gaming nerd when I was young, but now if the game isn't hyper competitive like Dota or Wow, I will get bored out of my mind.

These "losing track of the world" experiences will become more and more rare. A long break (I'm talking about a month or two here) will cure you for a while. Maybe find online games that have a goal to achieve, or provide you with a challenge.

Nah dude, it's over. You'll never play again.

Try playing some genres that you haven't been into. I found that the typical AAA releases were getting a bit samey, so I looked around for some other games to entertain me. I don't know what your preference is, but I'm sure there are some things that will still keep you interested.

I know the feeling so I have been really into Indie games that are short and don't require to much time, the genres have been varied so that helps

Don't listen to Hamster, he's just being negative. Shame on you Hamster!

Its just a phase you're going through dude. You'll be your old self soon enough.

Or maybe you're having too much sex . . . but whatever reason, know that theres a game out there waiting to be fscked whole night.

Suggestion: Use the time to be productive in your life. Draw something, write something plan something. Learn something.

You need to try new genres:

Did something change? Work got hectic and your tired when your home? Could be this?
I stopped playing games for more than a year cause of work that just tired me out. They had me do lots of physical work..

Changed jobs, no manual labor. Back to gaming :P well when the girl friend not keeping me too busy.

Happened to me last year and I run a forum, so it affected me badly. I took a break for a year from my main game and played other type of games on a very casual level. It worked for me, as I'm back on my main game.
I don't think I'm not so intense on it anymore and I practice a lot less and I have time for some casual gaming.

My advice, take a break. You will get back to it when you are ready. It is not about age or growing up, you are probably burnt out.

Happened to me a few times. I found that I would play for few hours and then just get bored and listless with it. My heart just wasn't in it.
What works for me is to get a good, short game that I could play through in two or three sittings. Completing a game always helps me get over the slump for some reason.
I highly recommend Brothers -A Tale of Two Sons if you haven't played it already. Deadlight may also do the trick (it's part of the current HumbleBundle on the lowest tier, so you can actually get it for something like R5).

Here's a nice website to find out how long a game takes to complete on average: http://www.howlongtobeat.com/
Try for something about 5 hours or less.

Yep, I went through this last year sometime and focused on producing music.
I started playing CS:GO a few months back and have literally not stopped playing.
Wknds my wife knows I'll be playing till whatever time in the morning.

But for me it was more about playing games on a high level and getting bored with a lack of a challenge.
Competitive play has really got me hooked again.
Team work and the benefits there of.

You're playing online multiplayer right?

I'm really digging Insurgency at the moment.

Same experience. Mostly, I'll get home from work in the evening and would rather flop on the couch with some series than play games. Would try play one or two but if I ended up dying, I'd switch it off.

Not sure if you've given the co-op multiplayer aspect of games a go yet, but there are numerous titles that provide this and it makes for a much better experience.

Games these days are just so VAST and 'concentration heavy' that it is sometimes a case of actually having to psyche yourself up to play; and that (imo) is completely wrong.

I've recently bought Sniper Elite 2 which I'm going to start soon. Something different...

Happens to everyone I think. If I just looked at some of those top ranked Bf4 players that have played 2000+ hours!

At the end of the day what have you really accomplished. I feel bad with 200 hours! :)

I prefer to take it much easier. Only loaded up The Witcher 2 on the weekend.

Some good comments here, thx. Glad the issue is not unique and unfixable.

I think its time to swap genres, that's it.

If that does not work, I will take a sabbatical from gaming for a month or two.
