Hi guys,

What sort of impact does playing games have on a network with regards to traffic. How much information is transmitted per a player?
I would imagine for a FPS its not that much (namely 3 axi for 3d location & information on 3d location of projectiles). On the otherhand a game such as C&C requires the same info for every unit on the field.

The reason i'm asking is because i want to know if 10 people playing on WiFi 802.11b (11mb) will be able to play throu an access point without LAG

Cheers

Borris

You shouldn't have a problem, games these days are designed from the ground up to work over dial-up so you're looking at max 8KB/s per person. I think 11mb/s will handle quite comfortably [;)]

most game's are designed to consume no more than arround 7KBps

The only problem with 10 people on a wireless lan may be ping times... I've played with 6 before on an 802.11g network and we could feel it at times...
