Hi guys,

I need your help regarding an ISP. I know there's many feedback threads and I've been through them all, but I can't really decide.

Me and a friend will be moving in together next month, where we'll start with our first jobs. The friend likes to play a lot of games online like dota, wow etc, but hardly cares for downloads/stream. I on the other hand don't care for online gaming, but I do love sickbeard, couch potato, youtube etc.

The question is should we rather buy 2 different accounts (one unshaped capped and one uncapped) and then setup a mikrotik router to route his ip range to his account, and mine to my account or is there an uncapped account with gaming priority? Using Mikrotik queues, it shouldn't be too difficult to split the line speed for capped/uncapped so no one abuses it before 12am.

I'm currently using an AH 4mb uncapped account at home, but I don't think my friend will like it with the current shaping. He complained in the past that his free 1gb AH account has random lag spikes etc. For me the AH account is perfect, as nntp is fast enough and streaming works well.

It would've been a no brainer to buy an capped AH account, but I've seen in the capped feedback thread, that even some capped accounts seemed to be shaped sometimes.

I don't know if the following will be useful info, but no-one will be home between 8-5 everyday. Finally, not to be an cheap ass, but since it's both our first jobs after studies we have a budget of spending as little as possible

The current options I looked at:
1. AH 2mb Uncapped Bundle + 10gb capped account = R497 + R49 = R546
2. OpenWeb 2mb Gamer King account + line = R226 + R299 = R525 (I don't know how openweb performs, never used them)
3. Telkom ISP seems to be good, but their websites is so confusing, I doubt I'll reach there throttling limits. (I have never used Telkom as a ISP so don't know how they perform)
4. IS accounts seems ok as well, since no one will be home during shaping hours, but I don't know how well one can game after 5pm if your star rating is low.

What are you guys' suggestions?
Thanks.

Just get a openweb Gold account. That way you can download during the day.

I'll keep an eye out for special gold accounts closer to month end like the current orange, but atm the original gold account is out of budget. Thanks for the advice.

Hi There,
How about looking at the small business packages from Afrihost? Unshaped and do what you like all day?

If you want to torrent outside of after midnight you're gonna need to pay a bit extra though. All the other accounts shape heavily during the day.

There is a GOLD special btw:

OpenWeb! Definitely had the service level from their accounts. PM MrBeep for a test account with the speed and service level you would like: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/member.php/10324-MrBEEP

I have a standard special account and torrents are currently downloading at about half line speed (Mid day.) Things other than downloads always run at full speed and my account is usually unshaped from about 7pm...so Gold account should be amazing...depending what your needs are.

I didn't know Openweb offers trial accounts. I'll definitely give it a try. Also, p2p is usually my last resort so I guess it should be fine.

I know how AH performs, so I'll just compare the two and make a decision, thanks for the help guys.
