I have a garmin streetpilot GPS with European maps that I got for free. Is there any way I can get SA maps on there for free? I dont want to pay R2000 to get the maps as I might as well buy a new GPS. Im cheap on this one, I know! :D

Im not asking to copy ur maps am I? For goodness sakes get over yourself! So you have never copied anything?? Im asking if someone can help me, not to pirate any damn maps.

It may be worth visiting garmap.co.za. Go to map products, and then Southern African maps. If you don't have any SA street maps installed (as in your case), then you'll have to pay R999. Since you received the unit for free, that's not really a lot of money to pay for something that can be invaluable ;)

Do you know if the SA Streetmaps/SA Streetmaps Topo & Rec 1.5. is compatible with your system? These are the most recent versions but a new release is imminent (less than 5 weeks est).

You may also want to check with Garmin as to the upgrade policy if you have to purchase 1.5 now. I read elsewhere a few weeks ago there was some hot debate as to what the cut-off date was for a "free" upgrade to the new maps.

Check the garmap webtite for unit compatibility.
