GANDALF - the revolutionary internet connection

GANDALF has developed a groundbreaking technique to increase data rates by a thousand-fold compared to existing DSL and a hundred-fold compared to WiFi. The technology also allows data to flow seamlessly over both wireless and fixed-line communications, making the project the only initiative in the world to progress so far in both areas.

“Why not use the same technology for both fixed-line and wireless? That was the fundamental question that drove the project,” explains GANDALF coordinator Javier Martí at the Technical University of Valencia in Spain. “We also saw the need to address the additional challenge of obtaining high rates of data transfer – exceeding 1 gigabit per second – over both cable and radio.”

the project is obviously real and provides benefits, but after reading the article, it seems the designers have focused more on the ability of the technology to transparently swap between wireless and wired.

so the speed advantages have taken a back seat, those figures arent reliable as they havent said anything about a compression technique or what exact changes are needed to infastructure to obtain those kinds of speed boosts. they just mentioned that the infastructure change is needed.

if they really wanted a good response they should of given us more concrete figures in their press release.
